Different style of knickers

Help: because of a misspent youth, I now have to wear a large brace on my back (left) knee. It won't go under my knickers, or any knickers that might stay on me and it extends well below the bottom of the knickers. I've been told I have to have it covered so it won't catch a point. My first try was a fabric tube that covered it, but since the cover was outside the knickers, it gave a seam that I think would catch a point faster than the uncovered brace.

I have been told that someone makes fencing uniforms where the knickers are actually the style of full length pants that would cover it, but I cannot find that style anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions where to look? I'm about to start cutting on my knickers and with my sewing skills, that is probably doomed.

Triplette also will do custom knickers. I have a friend who has a pair, made to accommodate his knee brace. There's velcro on the side, to make it easier the get the brace on and off under the knickers and also, the leg itself was made larger, so that the brace would fit. As far as I know he's not had any problems with them.
