I still swear by the Adidas Equipments, although they no longer make them <sniff>. However, I do have a brand new pair of them waiting in the closet for when I am once again able to fence (as well as 2 used pairs, which I can use for training purposes)... Maybe they'll decide to remake the asyms by the time I need a new pair.

I haven't used any other shoes since Equipments first came out, so my experience is a bit limited.

About the Adistars, if they are the follow-on shoes to the Equipments, I've heard from more than a few fencers that they tend to fall apart after relatively short periods (as little as 2-3 months, which is quite short for the price...).

I had the first generation silver and black Adistars. They were the best fitting fencing shoe I used and I've used many including cheaper Adidas D'Artanean, Victoria, Victory, Leon Paul and the very old Adidas from the late 1970s! Only problem was that they deteriorated very quickly. The second generation is out and is supposed to be better. They are costly probably since they are made in Germany. Its pretty rare to find a sports shoe these days that is made in Europe. Most are made in Asia. Right now I have the Italian made Victoria which are not quite as comfortable as the older Adistars, but are holding up very well to hard use 4 days a week. Good sole and decent support.

I heard their soles wear out early on, and it's then hard on your feet. I do agree they are stylish but I think they are of less quality of the Leon Paul Blades fencing shoes.

The D'arts were my first pair of real fencing shoes. I had a pair of Star Fighters before that; don't hold that against me I was young and in college. Adidas is the best athletic maker for me because I have small and narrow feet. I really liked the D'arts, but they were awful on wood floors. I was constantly re-wetting them. In addition, for those who know, the thin waffle-design sole did nothing on the DCFC metal plate strips.

Still, I wore them until a high-ankle sprain encouraged me to switch to high-tops. I've been fencing in Adistars since. I don't have serious financial constraints any more so I have several in reserve, recognizing their relatively short life-span. Yes, they need a little wetting on wood courts.

A shoe I have not seen discussed is the PBT. Check out this:

They run wide for my feet, but they are a durable shoe. I got a pair once and it felt sloshy, but instead of sending it back I used it in the weight room.
