seriously...foil has teh most potential problems because of teh nature of the weapon. Where are you located? if in So Cal I'd be happy to show you in person...yo'll learn better that way.
if not, you'll find PLENTY of advice here on the board!
As for the problems listed....I see three potential problems:
1) Going off randomly....if it's on a beat action (giving or receiving), then something's loose...it could be the grip, a loose barrel, the flenge in the tip coming off, a partially broken wire, etc....
2) Same issue, but going off while waving the blade around with no contact...could be a break in the body cord wire.
3) not going off on a hit...something's making the circuit ground out, thus not registering a break int he circuit from the depressed tip.
Give a DETAILED account of what EXACTLY is going on when the error crops up...you'll get much better answers. |

| Here's a second for Merg's armoring manual. Any competitive level fencer that does not travel with 20 weapons or their own armourer should own one.

When one of my foils breaks or stops passing the weight test I just buy a new one. Besides, trying to fix one of those things is nearly impossible, unless you're some kind of technical genius. Just toss it and get a new one dude.

| I'm not sure if you're being facitious, refering to oil sheiks who abandoned their new cars when the tank was emptied, or not. If not, can you adopt me? |

| Guys, I'm (blushing)(yeah, right!) flattered at your recommendations for my book!
Spasticgerbil, they are right, though, if you don't have a real idea of what is wrong, or you put out a shotgun blast of frustration, it's hard to point you in the right direction.
My suggestion is to seek professional help. Armoring help, that is. While my book is, if I say so myself, a great reference and how-to source, you need to sit down with someone and talk about what kind of problems you're having.
Now before someone jumps in with suggestions that you mail them your weapons, I'd look locally for someone that can at least tell you what's wrong with them and then you'll know what questions to ask of the forum (or what chapter to look them up in!).
Good luck. We stand to serve. |

| Yea if he mail them to me they will be right. After all 30 years as a armourer I still haven't seen it all. But a local armourer so be able to fix it.

| Check continuity for body cord and foil with a multimeter. That'll help you narrow down the problem. I know not of the mechanics of a foil tip since I do not currently own my own electric weapon, adn even if I did, we are lucky enough to have 2 1/2 armourers on hand to help us with our equipment every Wednesday.
