Array History of Arconia Coming soon...or maybe not so soon...I will post a full history of Arconia, that will hopefully be kept current. Be something good to look back on, and good for newcomers. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC -

Array I'm not going to be able to do this on my own, either. There are at least two spells of time that I really am not familiar with. They are the entire time I was gone last year (mid-June to mid-August), and immediately after the collapse of the dungeon (9/12) until "Lost at Sea", or whatever that thread was. Array Once upon a time (early May 2000), the wise and ancient Arcon started a thread called "The establishment of Arconia". It was originally just to be quick fun, something that could be considered successful if it got a few laughs and lasted a week. Little did any of us know.
Several royal appointments were made early on in the thread, as the government system worked itself out. Latenight was almost immediately established as royal attorney, and a call went out for a queen.
Zelda and Mango both met the basic requirements (Female, single, and willing), but both wanted the position. Several solutions were proposed, including duels, and toothpick fencing. Zelda seemed to be favored, and even suggested that she and Mango be co-queens. Mango, however, declined the position, leaving Zelda queen.
Most people skipped around a little before settling on a position. Moonitic was naturally the royal scribe, but others weren't so sure. I for one was offered postion of armorer, and additionally aked to be official makes-fun-non-fencers(er?), or the runner until a communications system was worked out.
War with fencingsucks.com started almost immediately, and a royal security force was established. I jumped for the opportunity to head it, as did Fencing Angel. Due to several misunderstandings, we nearly had to duel for the position, and in addition most thought him a girl. However, this proved irrelevant when fencingsucks.com kidnapped the Lady Moonitic and Craig, the webmaster. This is the first place where the kingdom branched out of the thread.
A recovery effort was mounted: The Strike Force Aiovus rode out from Arconia to execute a midnight commando raid. Its commander was the dark, mysterious Nękos Servaya, with Sir Angelo at his right hand. Upon entering fencingsucks.com domain, the force split into two groups. The first, led by Nękos, spearheaded the rescue of Moonitic, the lady he was sworn to protect. The second, headed by Angelo, went after Craig. Both destroyed several essential routing hubs in the process, thanks to the demolitions expertise of the late lady Lorelei Ledgerto. Nękos went ahead of his team to get Moonitic, and they were forced to leave without him. He retrieved his lady, and they escaped just before dawn. Angelo's team fared less well; they got Craig and got out, but sustained several casualties in the process, including many being captured and imprisoned for a few days. In the end, an Arconian victory.
Back home, unrest continued. Mango attempted to overthrow the kingdom, claiming Arcon's incompetence. Caught while still in the stages of ranting in the streets, she was imprisoned and put on trial, though later pardoned for I don't remember exactly what reason. Space_cadet was raising holy hell with a sustained propoganda campaign, and ended up in a duel of words with me. If you liken it to a fencing match, he never bothered parry, but simply threw down his weapon, kicked me in the shins, and took the black card while giving the director the finger. He later attempted (for a short time) a partner story with Ledgerto, but quit that quickly.
A short time after these, a royal costume ball was announced. All were to attend, describing mask, costume, weapon, and date. Latenight arrived with Jennifer Lopez, Moonitic with Sir David of Boreanaz. Though she was later discovered in a dark corner with another mysterious gentleman.
Nękos attended with Ledgerto, who surprised him by revealing to him his eye color (green). After only a dance, however, they decided to go out to the balcony to talk. There she told him of letters she'd been receiving from an unknown source. They threatened both her and her younger sister, the Dame d'Escrime. She asked Nękos for the protection of the strike force, and he promised these for both ladies. Not a minute later, she was killed by an assassin's arrow through the back, just as her little sister arrived downstairs. Nękos brought her body in, then vaulted the balcony and went running after the assassin. Unfortunately, he escaped. Returning inside, he collected the distraught Dame (whose name was later determined to be Josephine), rallied the attending members of the force, and retreated to the more secure location of his cottage on the outskirts of the city. This marked the beginning of "Aftermath of the Assassination", the longest thread in Fantasy Land, and I believe second-longest on the whole board.
At his cottage it was determined that Jo would have to be trained to fight, both for her protection and in keeping with the wishes of her late sister. Only Zelda's careful mediation kept the peace after Jo's precious hair was chopped short, and she was forced to wear pants and a tunic. Her training began, and conditions quickly surpassed Zelda's influence.
Not long after the training began, Jo attempted to run off, and ended up being stalked by a band of mercenaries hired to kill her. Lord Tellurine is now suspected as being the man behind it. Nękos and a small piece of the strike force found her just in time, and after a fight got her back to the cottage.
Shortly after this incident, another girl appeared at the Arcon's court, asking asylum and whether anyone had seen her father. The last that she knew, he'd been offered some kind of job by an unknown man, promising a large sum of money. The job required that he gather a force of men, find a certain girl, and make sure she was silenced. He was unfortunately never seen again.
Jo was quickly beginning to develop a thing for Nękos, and tensions between she and Serana immediately mounted, then heightened. Nękos was far too dense to see what was going on, until Jo finally just kissed him. Then it occured to him, and he bolted. Leaving Angelo in charge of the girls' training, he grabbed a few blades, minor provisions, and disappeared.
After Nękos' disappearance, the situation between the girls quickly deteriorated, climaxing in Serana's decision to also leave. Angelo gave Jo a good talking-to, and together they set off to find Serana. They found her, and brought her back, after a few fights and more than one close call with encroaching soldiers of Muu. What happened in the kingdom after their return I'm still a little foggy on; it was very confusing, especially with the amount I had to absorb at once when I could check back only once every month or so. A man called George Washington appeared for a little, and together with Bayer Hunter raised quite a scene. After a prolonged struggle, they eventually faded away.
About two months after his disappearance, Nękos returned to the kingdom to find everything different.
From this point, things started happening extremely quickly. His cottage had become something of a command center, inhabited full-time by Jo. Kicking everybody out in a fury, he told Serana to stay, and explained his past to her - and why he believed she was the one for him. He did not realize that both Angelo and Jo had lingered, and eavesdropped. They were not even quite done with their conversation, however, when things began. A messenger appeared at the cottage, bringing word that Arcon had been attacked and nearly assassinated where he was encamped with the army at the edges of the kingdom. Zelda was for some reason locked in her chambers and screaming her head off. Nobody ever figured out quite why. Arcon recovered, but knew the perpetrator: His long-lost evil brother, Zarcon. He was back. After a night of running around madly with everybody else, trying to figure out what was happening, Nękos returned to his cottage for a little sleep on the living room floor.
The next morning he woke to find a stranger at his doorstep, nearly dead from wounds. It was the day of the second royal ball, which he was to attend with Serana. He treated the stranger, whose name he learned to be Blade. He also was found to be a Talruum, one of the race from Nękos' past, masters with a sabre.
The ball started nicely enough, with only a few fights breaking out between rather confusing characters. Then things went sour. Meekal, the daft prince of Muu, bungled a love spell he was trying to put on his dear Moonitic, and ended up casting a hate spell. This caused her to try to usurp the throne, always a good way to kill a party. Most of everybody spent the evening racing about indoors and out, trying to get ahold of the slippery scribe-turned-usurper, and getting hurt in the process. Then things started getting really really confusing, so I decided to bow out. A lot more happened, but you'll have to ask somebody who knows.
It was eventually discovered that Blade had found Nękos in all the turmoil, with an important request. News had come from Nova Zemblar (the main city in the area the Talruum inhabited) that the humans were banding together with the Talruum rogues, trying to wipe them all out. Nękos' help was requested as he was the only one who could go between all parties. Nękos found Serana, and asked her to come with him, which she agreed to. After a few days' traveling the three (Blade, Nękos, and Serana) found themselves in a seaside city, where Angelo caught up to them as they waited for a way across the water. Once they crossed, they (four of them now) kept heading on, only a few days away from Nova Zemblar. This is where I left them.
Meanwhile - Something happened right after the ball, I'm not sure exactly what. There was a huge fight in the dungeons of the castle, resulting eventually in a collapse. Moonitic and Arcon were trapped together for some time, and the newly arrived Lochinvar, old friend of the royal couple, was seriously injured. Jo nursed him back to health, and a romance began to blossom.
Then something else happened, and it ended up with Jo and Moonitic being kidnapped (again) by Tellurine and Zarcon, climaxing with a fight between the brothers at the edge of a cliff. Both went over, Zarcon dead. Moonitic then jumped. Willow the pregnant scorceress, meanwhile was having a magic duel with her long-lost father, and ended up killing him with a boot knife. Once the fighting was pretty much over, Zelda returned with Latenight to the kingdom to address the people. Jo and the lady Rosaline and Lochinvar went down the cliff to the river below to search for bodies, retrieving only Zarcon, with Arcon's sword still in him. Arcon, we find out, was washed out to sea on a piece of a thatched wall, and has been adrift several days now, currently just barely surviving a storm. Zelda is at home, having just addressed the leaders of the kingdom on Arcon's likely death. And Jo and Lochinvar are by the river making out while Rosaline sleeps back at the camp. --------------------------

Array An important addition (as far as some characters go):
Angelo & Lady Moon (aka Princess Buffy) were to marry, but each ran away & ended up in Arconia. Only after Moon saw the mark of the dagger on Angelo's shoulder did she realize who he was. This was very dangerous for the twosome. Lord Tellurine was sent to find them. He took Moon to the kingdom of Muu, where the King was going to force her to marry his OTHER son, Meekal the Daft. Fortunately, they escaped to Arconia. Two thwarted weddings, two Muuvian princes & one runaway princess.
Tellurine appeared once more to trap Meekal & Moon in a cave, with the promise of hidden treasure. Meekal was going to use it to win the lady's hand. Moon merely went along for the adventure. She got it. Tellurine tried to force them to sign a marriage license, therefore uniting the wealthy kingdom of Schoolcraftia & the military force of Muu.
Zelda & "the gang" showed up to rescue them. And so the story goes. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array Apologies, Moon. I wrote it wrong the first time, and copied/pasted it from there - thus repeating the mistake each time. It should be fixed now, though. And thank you for your fill-in concerning Meekal and Moonitic.
Zelda - as I said, updates to follow. This left off a long time ago, and I'll need to do a little research and see if I can't catch back up. Thankfully things are moving relatively slowly right now. If only it could be the same in real life... It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate.
