| U = Unranked no rating has been earned.
E through A are upward progressing rankings where A is the top rank.
The year is the year the rank was last earned.
I'm not sure how long the ratings are good for. I personally re-earn my U at every tournament!

| No, you reearn your U every time you rejoin the USFA. Us are never awarded. |

| KD5MDK is correct, you have a U starting out with a USFA membership. You should take their advice and look in the athlete's handbook so that you can see the rating chart (also available online at the USFA website) to see how many people/relative difficulty level each tournament must have to earn a higher rating. U is lowest A is highest. The year afterwards is the year the rating is earned. Every three seasons/four years that rating earned goes down one level and gets an updated year. For example, if by some act of God I earn a D08 at the NAC this weekend, if I don't re-earn that rating or something higher come August 2012 (start of season four years later) I go down to a E12. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on this).
Hope this helps!
P.S. On a hillarious and less helpful sidenote, I had this conversation with my dad: (And as a disclaimer: No, I am not knocking U's)
Me: So A is the highest rating and E is the lowest rating...
Dad: So what did you get?
Me: An E
Dad: So then what were you before that?
Me: A U
Dad: So, did they skip a few letters, or does U stand for uncoordinated?

| Ratings expire after 3 years of having the same rating.
I'm a C'08 now, but in 2012, I'll be a D'12

| Well, it is four years. Which is how my daughter could have a D'04 and enter the Div III WE.
