| Capitol Division Has anyone ever wondered whether "Capitol Division" is a misspelling? It would seem to make as much sense as calling it the "Washington Monument" division or the "Supreme Court building" division. "Capital Division" would seem to make a lot more sense. |

cap·i·tol (kāp'ĭ-tl) Pronunciation Key
n.
1. A building or complex of buildings in which a state legislature meets.
2. Capitol The building in Washington, D.C., where the Congress of the United States meets. See Usage Note at capital.
—Usage note The noun capital refers to a city or town that is the seat of government; to a capital letter as opposed to a lowercase letter; and to wealth or resources. The noun Capitol refers primarily to the building in Washington, D.C., in which Congress sits or to similar buildings used by state legislatures.
capitol. (n.d.). The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Retrieved March 06, 2008, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/capitol | As in, the division in which the Capitol is located. Yes, it may be the only division named for a single structure within the division, but probably better than DC Division or District of Columbia Division, or Columbia Division. With Western Washington, better to avoid confusion.

A lot more hits for "capital area" then "capitol area." |
