Sizing help?

Ok I am not experienced in buying equipment since this is my first time.
When buying a jacket, knickers, plastron, and chest protector is it better to buy them at your exact measurements or should you go a little bigger?
Do I need to be concerned about the jacket and knickers shrinking when I wash them?

First thing you'll want to do is refer to the vendor's sizing chart (they generally are located somewhere on the vendor's web site).

I also usually recommend that people go up a size unless they are already at the bottom of their size range, especially when ordering cotton (which covers most beginners sets). Then try it on as soon as it arrives and don't be afraid to exchange it for another size if necessary - most vendors are pretty good about that.

Of course the best option is go to a tournament where a vendor will be present - that way you can actually try things on.
