Array mask strap Is a strap to secure your mask required? the velcro on mine is long worn out but the tounge still secures it to my head. Im going to Rosemont though so I am a bit worried this is illegal. -

Array "The Head Crusher likes visa cards." The man smiles. "He slathers peanut butter on them and eats them." He shakes his head. "Weird, but then, most everything is weird out here - present company excepted, of course." -

Array The strap is required (m.25.7).
However there is nothing that says you can't replace the strap with a new one or replace the velcro with new velcro or a snap. You can even stitch the strap in place permanently, although it might make the mask a bit more difficult to get on and off. -

Please stop by the LPUSA booth and see me. I can replace the Velcro strap or the hard Velcro that is riveted to the mask, if needed.

That's what I thought, until I made a fast retreat in a competition, and my mask stayed behind. It happened twice in that bout. Replacing the strap is really worth it. -

Array I had to card someone at the beginning of a DE last weekend who didn't have a backstrap at all. He claimed the mask had never had one, and that he had been fencing for a while and had no knowledge of any such requirement. I was incredulous.
I then realized that it had passed inspection that morning, AND that he had gotten through pools with it. -

Array I have posted this before, but one more time will not hurt.
If the Velcro on your mask strap is worn out ( or if you have a head the size of a Weber Grill...like me ) you can use a mitten clip to fix this problem.
A mitten clip looks like a one inch suspender with the same sort of metal clips.
It is used by parents to attach kids mittens to their jackets. I found mine at a fabric shop. -

Array It's really a quick easy fix. Tim's wore out about a year ago and the new strap was under 5$. Like suggested before, I stitched one side permanently on. This is your head and face you are protecting, don't skimp on the protection.
Okay... I will get off my Mommy Soapbox now.

Array I made my own strap and sewed it on myself. Take a look at the 4th post down in this thread: Gadget to stop masks falling off
