Fencing in Advertisements

Hi Everybody!

I need examples of fencing in advertisements for an article in American Fencing. I've seen examples in Pacificor adds, Nike and BMW, but could use more examples.

If you have seen any, please let me know what the company was and the ad, big bonus points if you know the ad agency responsible. The more recent the better, but anything within the last couple years will probably work.

Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

I really liked an old ad of the Arrow shirts and clothing where there was a young black man dressed elegantly and holding an epee.I wish I could find the image of that ad.

Mutual fund company...CGM? They showed fencing in their commercials from time to time...probably coinciding with when one of their funds has a particularly good 3-, 5-, or 10- year return. They have also added stoopid dialogue to the same footage over the years.

Actually...I found a link to their website:

http://www.cgmfunds.com/

edit: Oh...they're kind of local to me...

I don't really know if this counts, but the NCAA has an add where a lawyer is fencing in a court room:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9VY4WnWKL0

then there is an IBM ad that is on the side bar on that page:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJom_...eature=related

thats two more!

There was that Love Life Stop AIDS campaign from the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health in 2006 that involved two naked women fencing. If memory serves, one was with an epee and one was with a sabre.

There was a horrid Just For Men ad on this side of the pond a couple of years ago which could only have originated from the US, going by the poor dubbing and mid-80's style camera work.

Sadly, I don't have a clue who to blame for it.

Speaking of horrid, there is a MasterCard commercial that features a young woman singing (quite off key) about the things she likes to do to the tune of The Sound of Music's "My Favorite Things". It features a brief fencing scene. The singing is terrible, the premise of the commercial is elitist, and I cringe whenever it comes on the TV.

MasterCard Favorite Things

What was so bad about the singing?

McDonalds featured a fencer in a print ad and coupon sheet a few years ago (I have one of two in a folder "somewhere").

GMC has featured fencing in a television ad.

The Mastercard ad that was mentioned, the song is "My favorite Things" and the singing wasn't bad. I think a new foil and salle fees was one of the things in the ladies list...

There's a new commercial for Mountain Dew I believe.... It's got the ones that say "More people are attacked by ferrets than sharks each year," and interesting facts along that line.

Their most recent one showed women and men doing various activities outside in a lightning storm, and one of those activities was fencing. The fact was, "Men are struck with lightning 4x more than women." Something to look for.
