Pacific Coast Section Youth Championships The pre-registration for this event is pretty low. I have my opinions, but prefer to hear others', at least for now... -

Array We went to this event last year and enjoyed it BUT it was in conjunction with the SYC and one of my boys was able to fence cadet and junior events at the Pacific Coast Championship while his brothers fenced the SYC events so it was worth the time and money to go. (We are from out of state)
This year they split the two so we are not going to either one.

For the past three years the Jr Pacific Coast Championships, Jr. PCC's, which is the section's U19/Jr Summer National qualifier, have been held in conjunction with an SYC and an additional cadet event.
Since the Jr. PCC's are a qualifier they were only open to section members while the cadet and SYC events were open to everyone.
This year the Jr. PCC's will be combined with the Sr. PCC's in May. The Western SYC is in San Jose at the end of March. (This year none of these tournaments, the SYC or the PCC's, have cadet events.)
Since the Youth PCC's are not an RYC, SYC or qualifier, there may have been less of an incentive for fencers to attend.
Plus the entry fee for the Youth PCC is $35.00 registration and $25.00 per event. A fee of $60.00 for one an event that isn't a qualifier, may have dissuaded some from attending.

Array I think that the fact that the event size was limited to the first 24 to register had a something to do with it also.

If anything, limiting the size would have caused people to sign up early. It is in direct competition with the SYC 3 1/2 weeks later. It's not a qualifier (even as an RYC it would have at least served that purpose). Attending youth events are family decisions (kid can't drive himself). The way this was set up and scheduled, it had absolutely no shine to it to attract anybody. Perhaps if it was in May when there are few tournaments around here and sold as a Nationals warm-up, it would have been better. The decision to split it has probably killed it. Similar Threads -
