On behalf of all our members, I ask you: PLEASE can we have a moderator on this forum? There are one or two individuals who, although they have been repeatedly asked to calm down, have persisted to drag this board into a dismal state. I have been personally offended by (an individual) and I'm sure I'm not the only one here.

I'm sure this topic will fill with similar views from our "true" members. (and I reckon it may even become a bit like a petition! ) and I'm sure the persons I'm talking about, will also reply.

We can ALL take a joke, but I personally have had enough. It's time.

Craig, I second Steve's motion. We REALLY need a moderator on this list. I thank you guys for removing the garbage that was on here this morning. SURELY there is a way to prevent people from making trouble deliberately on this board. It's one thing to joke around and play and write the stories we write. It's totally another thing to be insulted and put down and be lied about. PLEASE, is there anything you or any of us can do?

Craig, I agree with the others. Fantasy Land needs a moderator otherwise I will have to drag all those buggers into my story and then massacre them.

Gotta side with the rest of 'em, and I don't particularly care what GW and Poccia think. There's a line between genuine freedom of expression and deliberately goading a response just to piss people off. The courts generally agree that the right to freedom of speech does not give one the right to yell "Fire" in a crowded theater because the resulting panic could cause injuries. Although that's highly unlikely here, the entire site's reputation might be trashed by one or two people with the brains of a tree and the morals of Pol Pot. Those responsible for posting items that are deliberately offensive refuse to abide by the mores of this board, and have shown a blatant disregard for other members.

Freedom of speech IS highly important. But there are limits. Those lines have been crossed multiple times. Given that this is a public board, there would seem to be a duty to prevent minors from seeing the crap that sometimes gets posted here. If they wanto to see it, let 'em go to FencingSucks

Give the job to Arcon. I'd trust him. He's more than a little strange , but I'd rather have him monitoring the board instead of a pack of morons ruining it for everyone.

Even tho I only visit the fantasy board once in a while I agree with the rest. From what I've seen we have one or two "posters" whose only purpose seems to be to cause trouble and mess up the "flow" of the fantasy threads.

I agree Craig. This area not only needs a King and such (Arcon et-all) it deserves the same basic moderation as the rest of fencing.net. Sure we are able to go willy nilly with the story lines, thats perfect.
However it has been shown in the past that a few have abused the privilege of this rather open area. That opinion has been stated to death by many many people on this site.
I dare to say that we have proven that we can not self moderate effectively from our home P.C.s. So... How about a little help from the powers that be?
1.) Close threads that have taken an ill turn.
2.) P.M. the person posting offensively.
3.) Block the login to the fantasy site of an offender who has consistently shown poor judgement control when posting to that site over the previous 2 weeks.
These are only random (not well thought out) ideas.

As a side note that might sway a decision, at least one (if not both) of our "problem children" have indicated specifically that their ONLY mission here is to disrupt, & have discontinued this portion of the board. That in & of itself is a reason to do something quickly about this. This is a wonderful site. Great people visit. Curious non fencers visit. Why make the fencing community look like a bunch of nasty, foul mouthed kids who have no respect for others? Allowing them to continue in this manner will tarnish the image of this message board as a whole...& that's JUST what they want.

So, again I say please...appoint someone to watch over us. Arcon, Zelda...someone.

I'd second moon's suggestions, but I'd lean towards Arcon primarily because this part of the board sems to be primarily his baby.

The reason I mentioned Zelda is because she hasn't been a target yet. She'd be able to be viewed as a more "neutral" party. Of course, whoever is chosen, if any...it will be a VAST improvement.

Ive have done what i could to deal with the trouble makers but i do find myself in the line of fire most of the time. I dont think anyone outside of Craig would get the respect needed to have any control over these individuals who seek to total disrupt this thread. Anyone given the responsibility of moderating this site will automatically be a target(unless its Craig). Im sure Craig is busy, its probaly hard enough for him to moderate the rest of the site. He was good enough to give us a place in fencing.net and i personally wouldnt feel right asking him to moderate us if he truly doesnt have time.
I can offer my services to moderate but im not at all sure how Craig or the board would feel about it. Personally i think it would be best to have more than one person. These people would moderate and report to Craig but would have leverage to make the hard decisions.........my two cents.....

When these individuals get completely out of hand I do the only thing in my power(i cut them off) I have no more direct contact with them... but it does still leave them to make chaos with the rest of the board.
Zelda is going to Europe, she will be really busy. I cant and will not speak for her but ill bet she really doesnt have time to monitor us.

How transparently you try to gain power by denying it. Rather Octavian if you ask me, but here you will fail. You are nothing, but a power/attention craving wharf-rat. You come to this board and set yourself up as king (in real life you are a cog-wheel), you pretend that you are a rated fencer (but you aren’t rated in any weapon), you slink around carefully trying to hide your true identity (because if the truth was known a desperately lonely affection craving Veteran Fencer would be peeking back from behind those smugly self-assured posts). Inasmuch as I have disrupted this particular area, you have repeatedly disrupted the entire board with your personal nonsense. How many times have you interjected yourself into legitimate discussions with completely irrelevant nonsense?

“Done the only thing in your power (cut them off)?” Whew it’s good to see that you are no longer harboring those delusions of grandeur in which you can solve problems with a wave of the hand and an empty ultimatum. That was funny.

What exactly do you think that a moderator does? Hasn’t it already been done?
