Look, you shouldn't fence in fear of yelling just because you might lose energy. If you're so worried about using up energy by yelling, then you must be a completely efficient machine while fencing because you aren't worried about each and every step you take.
| It's more the fear of looking like a moron that I'm afraid of.

You dont yell because it might make you look like a moron? Seems like an insecurity to me...honestly I dont care of what the people who watch me fence think. If I get the touch, and yell, its still mine. If I win the bout I go on to the next one, regardless of whether I scream or not. I could care less if people think Im an @$$ for yelling.

I mean, anecdotal beliefs that yelling "works" are all well and good, but they differ little from superstition.
2.) No doubt you believe in underpants gnomes as well.
3.) The human body is a machine. It requires fuel in direct proportion to the amount of work it can accomplish. Floating "energy" in a room is not a source of fuel, and even if it were there's no transmission mechanism for ingesting it.
4.) Imagination is a wonderful thing, but it just isn't a power source.
5.) There is no such thing as a separate "mental energy". The brain is a part of the body, and it works off the same power source.
6.) Can you actually document any such incidents? | 1.) Well in fencing, you don't use energy as fast as you would lifting a car, for most people. Also, thats why states are spaced out so you have a week of rest, just like in football.
2.) Errrr no.
3.) I'm not talking "floating energy". I realize you can't digest photons of light. I am talking about the "energy" in the place. Maybe it passed you by, but when you play in the Superbowl and you have thousands of fans cheering and millions watching, you sort of get pumped up. You can be watching a movie and feel like you want to run a mile. Your body is a machine. Most people don't know how much energy they have in it untill it's released. Also, will power. How much you want something. You can be using your physical energy is a non-effective way. You must sum up energy to focus on exactly what you want and then, get it. Some people think they know what they want, other think they have it, only a few know and perservere.
4.) It's called faith- refer to the top of the pyramid of success

But my emotional state during the bout has nothing to do with what the spectators think. I would feel stupid for being so sure of myself and not because I looked like an idiot to whoever is watching.

I guess I can be considered an epee 'yeller',but nobody has said anything to me about it to my face. And really,I don't care because about 90% of the time I yell BECAUSE I did got the touch.

| Exactly.Yelling isn't a builder of energy,it's a depleter of energy.Human athletic energy is finite and if you do yell, you damn better have a lot of energy to spare for such an act during a competition...if you think yelling gives you energy, you are living in a fantasy land.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
