Array Hotels in San Jose Summer Nationals Assuming that planning ahead is a sound policy, I checked the USFA website to see if the dates for my events had been posted. (They haven’t). Then I checked the THS-USF.com website to check hotels, and it indicated that both the Hilton and Marriott hotels (the hotels that are attached to the venue are sold out from 6/28-7/11. Their discounts are OK ($139 vs. $200+ per night regular rate at Hilton, and $119 vs. $239 at Marriott) and I could still get a room at the higher regular rate, but why would they be sold out when the event schedule has not even been posted? I understand that event staff may reserve a block of rooms, but I can only assume that other people are reserving for the entire two weeks in advance and cancelling later. Also there are several sold out dates at the other hotels listed. For those who like to stay at the Host hotels it will cost you. -

Array There are lots of good hotels nearby. The Fairmont (Fairmount?) is very good and is only a short walk from the convention center. There's also the De Anza hotel, the Clairemont and several others.
Anyone else what some info about Downtown SJ? There's a decent nightlife buzz. Gordon Biersch, lots of non-chain restaurants, some chain restaurants. Plenty of dance venues. -

Array Eric is right. The other hotels are pretty close to the venue.
I used to work downtown and was 4 block from the convention center and even that wasn't that bad of a walk.
I was thinking of going downtown and scouting out some of the family friendly things to do and I will leave the night life things to do for Eric to scout out .
For families there is the Tech Museum w/ IMAX theater, the Discovery Museum (great hands on for younger siblings), Museum of Art ... these are all walking distance from the convention center.
The 4th of July fireworks @ Guadalupe Park are great and within walking distance.
Send any questions and I will do my best to answer.

Array I stayed at the Fairmont while there on business a few months ago. It's an excellent hotel and has free wireless. It was NOT cheap.
Some of us took the train to San Francisco for dinner while we were there and some of us who arrived early and had access to a rental car drove out to see the redwood forest. -

Array Thanks you two! As I recall from Santa Clara (1997), there is Indian cuisine on almost every corner too. Can't wait. -

Array One thing good about Northern California (the area, not the division) is that you'll get a huge variety of food cuisine. And almost all of it are top-rate stuff. -

Array The San Jose visitors site has a nice web page.
Under the places to eat section, it will show you all the places and how far they are from the convention center. http://sanjose.org/visitors/thingstodo/things.php

The Fairmont is a beautiful hotel within walking distance. The Crowne Plaza is even closer.
Once the day schedule has been posted, people will start releasing rooms. There will be another wave of room adjustments once the close of check in times are posted but unfortunately this is always after THS has released the room block back to the hotels. Similar Threads -
