missing German foil wire cup?

Recently I had a foil tip blow out. tip, screws, springs, all gone during a bout. Later when I went to put in a new tip I noticed that the plastic cup at the end of the wire that usually sits in the barrel seemed to be missing. I'm wondering if there is any way that while the tip and spring were flying out, the cup could have also gone missing. I cant see the groove in the blade so I think the cup might still be there. Its whatever wire came with the Absolute non-FIE blade. are there clear/metal colored wire cups that might be there? I dont want to rewire if I dont have to.

I dont get it. First you say you think the cup is missing, then you say you think the cup might be there. Which is it, is the cup there or not?

It's not likely that it flew out with the rest of the tip, but I suppose it could happen. In any case, there's a simple solution. Put in a new tip and see if it works. If it doesnt, then you need to rewire. It's not rocket science.

the cups probably still in there
it seems very unlikely that the cup could break away from the wire and fly away with the tip

Not necessarily...if teh cup fit loosely in the barrel, the wire was completely broken (including the outer wrap) at the cup, and the cup was stuck to the spring, it could happen...not very LIKELY, but it could happen.

Absolute did/does have some clear cups on their house brand wires so that could be the problem. Just test the darn thing and see if the nipple and wire are still in there. If it works, it works. If the cup came out it would have had to have taken the nipple with it and it won't work.
