Body Cord Configured for Sabre

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this before. I left my two-prong body cords at the club accidently the day before a competition. One of my clubmates brought them to me the next day, and having more experience and knowledge in armory told me that she configured them for sabre.

When I brought them for inspection, the armourer failed them and proceeded fixed them. I didn't really have the time to ask them what was wrong with them because pools were starting, and I had a working body cord. My body cords were brought to me later in the pool, fixed and passed.

My questions are: what exactly is a "sabre configuration" on a body cord? And why would one use that instead of a normal configuration? And why would it fail?

There is no such thing as "configured for saber". However, if a body cord has the B and C wires reversed, it will work for saber but not for foil. We test for that, and we will not permit a B-C reverse, even if you claim you will only use it for saber, where we agree, it works. The reason is that a saberist might well lend their cord to their foilist friend, and then we have a problem.

So, I'm not sure why your club-mate reversed your B and C wires, but I'm betting the armorer found that they were reversed, and fixed that.

Yyyyyyeaaah.....tell your friend to actually learn something about how the systems work before messing with gear that doesn't belong to her.

Tell her to buy Mergs' book....it'll explain everything....you can buy it from me.

Where in the state are you located...and was this at the collegiate at UCLA last weekend?

I think she "configured" the bodycords for sabre the way you're supposed to "configure" a socket for sabre, by shorting the B and C lines.

You can use this opportunity to educate the ignorant people on the proper way to short a sabre. You NEVER short any lines on a bodycord. Think of it this way, armorers don't test bodycords for use in sabre, they test them for use in foil. If it won't work for foil it'll FAIL.

A 2prong sabre socket should have the insulating disk removed from where the B-line plugs in (usually a white plastic disc on both the top and bottom of the bracket). The B-line is the small post.

Nope, this wasn't at the UCLA tournament. It was at Bladerunner.

When I heard of this, I was first confused because I haven't heard of a body cord designed specifically for sabre. I thought that this was a new thing. Thanks for clarifying this, and I will tell her.
