I may regret asking in this forum, but....
I am head tech for first half of summer nationals. I am looking for a volunteer armorer to help out. USFA will pay for a room (shared with another armorer) and meals, but not travel expenses or per-diem.
You need to have experience. It could be significant local tournament experience with a head tech I know and trust, or it could be armorers college and I'll ask Dan. Both is good. You need to have tools (cord test, lame test, mask punch, basic adjustment tools) and be facile with them. You need to be courteous and helpful with the fencers, parents and coaches. You need to know the rules.
You would have to arrive in time for setup the day before the tournament starts and you are free to go between the 3rd day after morning rush and the end of the day on July 5th. You can fence at one event during the days you are on duty, but if you do, your room and board will not be paid by the USFA for that day. The schedule is not available yet, so that may be a tough thing to figure out. We really need the most help for the morning of the first 3 days.
If you do a good job, your name and contact info goes on the list, and you will be considered for future USFA national tournament assignments, where we do pay travel expenses, meals and per-diem.
If this sounds like something you want to do, PM me. Include an armoring resume with references.
If you don't meet those criteria, have some experience, and still want to help I'll accept one or two others, with no room/meals reimbursement. You don't need to bring anything, you can just assist other armorers. PM me.
Armorers start at 7 AM and finish when the fencing is finished, although on late days, we usually let most of the crew leave by 6 or 7.
If you do it, you will learn a lot. I guarantee it
