Gee, never had a story dedicated to me before.

355 I know you can write and write well.

Sounds reminiscent of the Eddas. Same pacing, but doesn't rhyme. Interesting.

    What's next?

The writing, forgive me if I sound biased, I didn't even think that good. The sentences are rather choppy. Spelling is lacking. He uses older adj/noun order (Arrows of fire; daring and calculated was this attack), but only for a few parts. Nearly all sentences, excepting some from the last paragraph, are simple. Very staccato, a single idea per sentence.

Call me paranoid, but I sense a vengeful symbolism about to be unveiled. Two heroes - easily him and GW. Troops, I don't know. Impregnable fortress - Arconia? Fantasy Land? Perhaps we shall find out. Or perhaps 355 will chicken out and quit the story. Or perhaps I'm paranoid. But I doubt the last.
It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Why look any deeper? It sounds okay as it is.

Not all writing has to have a deeper meaning.

Beowulf, the Iliad, the Eddas of Iceland, all had short, staccato rythms [sic] and archaic word usage.

Just read what's there, and enjoy. Or not.
No great mystery need be revealed.

Hmm...355 the puzzler. Could be interesting...

The story's gone and I missed it. I still need convincing of 355's ability to behave like a grown-up.

Hmm I want to know what it said. No matter how someone has behaved before, if they do something good I am not going to criticize.
See, you made him delete it. Now no one else will get to read it, or evaluate it for themselves.

It is unfortunate that since I wrote this I read the topic line of another thread he started here. I think he /can/ behave like a grown-up though.

sorry for the tone of this btw - no offence to anyone intended, I'm just curious by nature.

Haze, his ability has never been in question.

    Only his maturity.

This post was a thinly-disguised insult, couched in a style calculated to slip it by the moderators.

I think that we all wish he'd demonstrate his ability by something more than mere adolescent pranks.

Did you have to write it that way? You need to get out more often.

Haze, as a moderator, I can assure you that no one made 355 delete his story. We left it there, as is. We only delete things that DIRECTLY go against the guidelines set forth for this forum. No one complained about it, therefore, we left it.

If you believe that 355 can act mature, I suggest you tell him that. He doesn't seem to think so. In fact, I have challenged him to write a story, within the boundaries of the guidelines, to prove to us once & for all how much "better" he is than us, as he feels. So far, he has yet to meet that challenge.

Any post that has been deleted on this thread, has been by the author, by their OWN choice...not the moderators.

    355:

I write in whatever way I feel best conveys my meaning. I think my characterization was accurate.

Sorry if you thought it was too verbose, but that's why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors--not everybody has the same style or taste.

As for getting out more--well, I've been meaning to do that. But thanks for thinking of me.
