Replacement rubber for bails

What have you found to replace the rubber pieces on the bails of your weapons (specifically epee) and reel cords. Just for definition the bail (sometimes spelled bale) is the metal bits that hold the body cord plugs/connectors to the reel or weapon plug/connector. The Preiuer epee connects have a plastic "dohickey" (that's generic) that does the same thing. But most manufacturers who follow Uhlmann or Leon Paul use a metal bail.

Anyway given the lack of standards in sizes for body cord plug/connector, mine and my club's reels have gotten chewed up (actually disintegrated) and I'm looking for a substitute. Only under duress will I consider buying the whole thing from a supplier. USD $2.00 for 2cents worth of rubber bothers me.

thanks

I'm guilty of that.

Try rubber tubing from your local hardware store? I'm sure that might have something that would suit some of the connections.

I thought it said "Replace rubber or bail?" and thought this had more to do with strategy than equipment

I have used hardware store tubing. But plastic tubing rather than rubber. With a well equipped store, you can get sizes which will nest inside each other. The combined outside diameter is about the same half inch as the original and the inside diameter isn't too loose on the wire.

It works reasonably well.

On Jan 22, 2001 it cost 94 cents to buy a Euro, now it costs about $1.50. Thanks again, George.

It's January, The dark time in Sweden and we can see what Zilverzmurfen's thoughts turn to.
Were those any specific balls or ....
I suppose the rains we're having are bearable by comparison.

Have no congress with any instrumentality of the dark.
