2008 Olympic Competitors? Need help locating good stories. Hello,
I am producing a feature film for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing that is supported by the Beijing Olympic committee, CCTV, and the government. We are a 2 time academy award winning production company based in Montreal Media Verite and When Films. I need some assistance locating some good fencing stories for the film.
First let me explain that I am NOT interested in any athletes from North America and Europe as there is plenty of press coverage on them already. I am interested in locating people who you THINK might be going to the Olympics in August. Ideally, someone who has a passion for the sport but perhaps very little financial assistance from any country/sponsor/institution. Ideally someone who has a sword and a dream and little else. It is of little interest to us if they have a chance at a medal but we do want them to be going to the games as a representative of their country.
Also interested especially in Women fencers who may have/are having to fight to be considered due to cultural influences of their host countries.
Filming starts in April 2008. If you have seen someone that you think has a story worth telling that transcends the sport itself, please email me your suggestions. Please include athletes name and country.
You are the experts on Fencing we are not, if you wish to email me directly you may do so at mkafilm@yahoo.com. The film is called Changing Lives. Thank you for your assistance.

Array This was probably not the best place to put your thread. Put it in the main Fencing Discussion forum if you want eyeballs, also put it there since that is the fourm that is more appropriate. -

Array The Venezuelan men's epee team comes to mind. They've got a good chance to make it to the Olympics, and come from a country where fencing isn't really much to talk about.
Other than that, a good way to find these people is to go to the International Fencing Federation's website: http://www.fie.ch
Look for the first ranked fencer from Africa, in each weapon, and you've got your story. Originally Posted by mkafilm Hello,

When Films - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
