Silas watched her storm away and he said to himself, “And maybe when I’m crowned King, and Grandpa von Schmect helps me rule Arconia, I’ll keep you in the dungeon.”

If only he had known how easy it was to escape the dungeon these days.</strong><hr></blockquote>


The afternoon wore on, eventually turning to evening. It was at this time that Senyik and Larya met again in front of The Bitter End.

“Any luck, Sen?”

“Couldn’t find this Shem, or another smithy for that matter. How ‘bout you?”

“Couple people looking for maids – plenty of travelers in looking for *****s – and cooking offers about every third second. Never quite found my way to the castle, and never did find a job worth my time.”

“Well, you might not. In fact, if we don’t in the next…” Senyik did some quick mental math, “four days, we’ll need to just take whatever jobs are open.”

Larya made a face.

“We’ll deal with that later. For now, let’s eat.”

“The pub was packed to the brim: it was a good thing they’d gotten their room when they did. Senyik scanned the main room in search of an open table, and noted a grease-topped head in the crowd. Then sighed when he saw that the only seats left were at that table. He instinctively detested any male with the time, money, and vanity to put that much work into his hair.

As they sat down, Larya noticed a distinctive odor to the greasy head. It would also be very hard not to notice how he was harassing the attractive waitress.

Add to the situation Evan Rigger, who walked in just then.

Silas von Schmeckt and Evan Rigger had a long history of hating each other. There were only two reasons why they hadn’t fought yet: Silas was the smaller of the two, and Evan had yet to find a reason to jump him that would be good enough to justify the consequences.

Silas seemed more than willing to oblige him today.

Larya, unfortunately, had a seat next to the creep. Pushing his chair back, he averted his eyes from Ophelia and let them crawl down Larya’s diminutive body. She cringed and shuddered involuntarily.

“Well, well, what have we here? You are a cute little thing. Perhaps when I’m king I’ll make you both queen!”

Senyik purposely looked away, letting Silas continue. Give him enough rope and he’ll hang himself… Larya was glaring, though it appeared she was about to be sick. Evan noticed this as he stood behind Silas – who was continuing, “First thing, though, I think I’d like to see you in one of those barmaid outfits. Or even less.”

“Good evening, Silas von Schlecht*. You seem to be enjoying yourself at this lady’s expense?

“Feel free to leave any time now, Evan Frigger.” Silas hadn’t even turned around. “These affairs do not concern you.” He diverted his attention back to Larya. “What a pretty little kitten you are. Tell me, kitten, do you purr when petted?”

Evan sidestepped around him, knocked aside the arm he was reaching out to Larya, and picked him up out of his seat by the throat. “Shut up RIGHT NOW, you FILTHY LITTLE MAGGOT.” Senyik spun in his seat at this, and a broad grin broke across his face as he recognized the fight coming.

Silas managed to keep just enough of his wits about him to punch Evan in the stomach. Heads were already turning from Evan’s yell. When he slammed Silas down on the table and smashed his nose in with a quick left, the rest of the heads turned. He managed two more bruising blows to his jaw before a larger man jumped him from behind.

Senyik was up already and made a grab for the man. He dodged away, though, and threw Evan to the floor.

By now Steve was completely over the bar and on his way to break up the fight. He was intercepted by a friend of the first man, who was still beating on Evan.

Senyik saw Steve get grabbed by another burly drunk. He decided that Steve had been nice before, and seemed likeable. So he grabbed the drunk, picked him up, and threw him at Evan’s assailant, taking out three more full tables in the process.

The whole place was screaming and yelling by now. Any friends of the two drunks were now in the fight. So was everybody from any of the upset tables – which was already nearly half of them. The fists were flying, but the ale was flying faster! Senyik was having the time of his life.

Within the first thirty seconds, Ophelia had grabbed Larya and run outside. They stood now in the street as the sun set, watching through the windows (which didn’t last for long) as the volume rose. It wasn’t much longer before the first drunk got thrown out the door into the street.

“Men!” Larya commented.

Ophelia just nodded.

Inside of fifteen minutes the fight spilled out onto the street. Steve was thrown out of his own bar through the windows. He dashed back in the door and reappeared a moment later, dragging two brawlers by a leg and an arm, respectively. The then threw another through the door, dragged another pair out, and proceeded to fend them away from the door with what appeared to be a former table leg. As many as wanted could get out – but he wasn’t about to let them back in.

Evan came rolling out shortly thereafter in the middle of a ball of fists, feet – and one greasy-looking head.

Senyik was visible for a second in one of the windows as he dropkicked a man through it. He disappeared again, then came through the windows at a bound with one man in each hand and a third in a headlock. The whole time he was grinning widely, and when he had the breath, shouting and whooping and laughing maniacally.

It was a few short minutes after the fight came outside that a largish squad of heavily armored Arconian soldiers came marching in at double-time. This alone dispersed half the fight, and the rest were easy enough to round up. A few were belligerent, but a gauntleted fist to the head quickly settled them. It took three guards to pry the hand of a screaming Evan from Silas’ throat. Once the rowdies were fully controlled, the troops started marching them off in the direction of the castle. Larya followed, as they had her best friend with them. Ophelia followed because they had her employer – and a good number of large, muscular men. Three soldiers were left to watch the demolished pub as the sun set on the street.

okay, i'll 'ave a pint o'bitter mate, i'll 'ave a pint with creamed corn blasters, and i'm glad i dropped the mango monikor, i couldn't eat mangoes for nearly 2 years and it's my favorite fruit, so that means if i like you, i really can do anything bad to you, hardly ever anyway, which makes it very difficult to fence....
