    Leon Paul Jacket

I bought a Leon Paul Jacket a little bit ago adn some knickers today. I was wondering I can wash this regularly right? (cold water, mild detergent, air dry no dryer no bleach) It is the model with the gray wicking layer o nteh inside.

Also, I want to put my club patch on but I don't know whether to sew through only the outside layer or both layers of the jacket

It sounds like you have the 350 N Competition range. If so, I have the same jacket.

You can wash it as you've described without damaging it. (zip it up and velcro it first.)

You can sew through both or one layer. It doesn't matter, but the more professional thing would be to only sew through the top layer and not the liner.

You're not supposed to wash it in cold water, it should say 40C (~100F) on the label.

It's also not advisable to use a fabric softener as it will 'clog' up the pores of the wicking layer fabric and start smelling after a while. (This goes for all 'breathing' fabric, but I'm sure you knew it already. Just a reminder. )

I have never really noticed a difference in hot and cold water. Also, are you saying not to use a detergent or just a detergent with fabric softener?

You don't know the difference between hot and cold?

Hot water is when it burns, cold water is what you drink.

No, definitely use a detergent (ie. washing powder/liquid) just do not use any fabric softener.

(Things may be different where you are, but here in Sweden the detergent is either a powder or a liquid. The fabric softener is liquid and in a separate bottle -- not mixed with the detergent. Skip this step when washing fencing kit [unless you have some old fashioned cotton kit] and sports t-shirts.)

The fabric care symbols on the back of the tag translate to machine wash warm, tumble dry low.

Here in the states we have a gas that we inject into the washing machine like you are filling up a car with fuel. Then the machine pushes it into the wash cycle as high pressures and creates plasma.

ANyways, sometimes detergents include fabric softeners so I was just double checking. I was saying I didn't notice a difference in the garments when washed in hot or cold water

Washing is a very subjective subject? Just do it often enough that your team mates don't complain.

Personally I prefer cold or luke warm water just because I like to get more wear out of my kit. And when it comes to drying in summer I hang it on the back porch over night and in winter (I have force hot air heat) I just put it over the hot air vents (dries reasonably quickly). What you don't want to do is put it in the tumber (dryer). Tumbler's are great for underwear where you want it soft. But that invovles breaking the fibers which wears your uniform out quicker - not desirable from my perspective.

Ok, in addition to the jacket a knickers I bought a new underarm protector. It has a green liner to it and I am afraid that if I wash it with my other stuff I will look like a fencing lime. I don't want the colors to bleed but don't know if I should washi it with other stuff. Should I just wash it by hand?

I would probably wash it by hand the first couple of times to see if it will bleed, just to be safe.

(Seems like a silly idea to have a lining of such a distinct colour, unless, of course, it really is "bleed safe" already. But still, since it makes customers wonder...)

Ok thx. I will try that. I don't get the idea behind a green lining but it is there so what ever
