Array Apologies Well...where to begin? How to say this?
I have now better figured out what my problem has been. Thanks largely to feedback from all of you.
I know I was out of line; I took a lot of things out on you guys. That wasn't fair. For that, I apologize.
The situation (as I'm so fond of saying all the time) is this: I am sick TO DEATH of people who are too scared, or too anti-American (these are Americans I'm talking about here) to do what is morally right. Now, I'm not saying that this is all of you. Maybe it is, maybe not. In any case, I won't generalize.
I have for a long time hated anti-American Americans. I may have emailed some of you about a despicable anarchist redo of the Pledge of Allegiance that I saw on a kid's shirt at school. I won't get into that again. This simply touched it off; the straw that broke the camel's back. Most people have suddenly become patriotic again; the few left simply infuriate me all the more now. I almost decked the kid I saw today wearing a belt with a huge Confederate-flag buckle.
Anyway. I know now that many of you feel actually as I do; you simply didn't say so, instead voicing your concerns. Which I also have; I simply didn't voice them. I have to go now, so I will shorten this.
I took my frustration out on you guys. I still stand by my beliefs, but apologize for my method of expressing them, which was reminiscent of GW. I will probably return, but not until the plots have settled down some. I will further clarify my position when I have more time.
God bless you all, my friends. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC -

Sword, my signature for a while was no joke; you are young, and the young ARE passionate--and rightly so. Winston Churchill is reputed to have said, "A man of 20 who is not a Liberal has no heart. A man of 40 who is not a Conservative has no brain."
The thing you have to realize is that some (not all) of the people you find despicable are in fact doing what THEY perceive as the "morally right" thing to do. Their morality isn't congruent with yours. That doesn't make them wrong--or right. Just different. And that difference doesn't necessarily mean that you can't associate with them or participate in activities with them.
Reasonable people can disagree, sometimes vehemently disagree, on many, many issues and still remain friends. You have to choose your battles, and decide what's REALLY an issue worth breaking ties over, and what is merely annoying but tolerable. (By the way, that's also a valuable talent to cultivate if you ever plan to marry! )
Welcome back. I'm glad you decided not to go. I look forward to reading more of your stuff. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Quite correct, my friend. That's where I went wrong. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.
