Array Nike Fencing Shoes - Come see them Come by the Fencing.Net booth at the Atlanta NAC to see a demo pair of the new Ballestra Fencing Shoes from Nike.
Also look for an article on Fencing.Net tomorrow detailing the story of the design of the fencing shoes as Fencing.Net had an exclusive interview with the head designer of Nike's Olympic Shoes initiative.

Are they gonna be for sale?
Probably not, I'm guessing. :-/ "Life is like a wheel, where everyone steals, but when we rise, it's like Strawberry Fields." -

Array Will the article detail pertinent issues for interested buyers such as width, design features, cost, and durability, or is it going to be solely about the design process (which I'm sure is also interesting).
Basically, I want to know if it's wider than Adidas shoes, because those are too narrow for me, and I need a new pair. -

Array Will the article have pictures? I would really like to see some good pics of the shoes. -

This weekend is the NAC. I'm sure the review will include availability details and if Craig has them I anticipate he'll have them for sale as soon as he can. -
I won't be able to make it, so someone better take some pictures and post 'em. (\ /)

Array Just read it. Seems like they really focused on durability, light weight and impact cushioning. They really did their homework. A price point of $100 to $150 seems pretty reasonable also. If my assymetrics crap out on me Ill definatly pick some up. -
Thanks Craig, Interesting read. Potentially a very good shoe. It was interesting to see his comments on a 3-6 month lifespan. Obviously this suit a manufacturer. However it's something runners have been aware of for years (replace shoes after x miles, rotate pairs) and something fencers are notoriously resistant too. Off course teh astronomically high price og the high end adidas shoes contributes to this.
If the shoe is as good as described I's certainly buy a pair. My Adistars would b up for replacement then. I like the idea of a flexible fore foot ( common in low end fencing shoes) combined with a well cushioned heel.
On a slight tangent, now Adidas has lost they Olympic contract will they continue to support minority sports with very limited market share. -
It was a great article. Wow, their testing was pretty thorough. I'll definitely pick up a pair when they become available. -

Array Wow, they sound great. Cant wait to see them at JOs. If the reviews are as positive as the article made the shoes out to be Ill definitely replace my Scimitars with them. -

Array The question for me (and many others) will be are they a significantly better then our current favorite shoe? For Addidas users, this may be a moot point - now that Addidas has lost the olympic contract, they may no longer make fencing shoes. But for those of us who use, say one of the Leon Paul shoes, and are happy with them, it may be not such an easy sell.
Additional sponsorship question. Are Olympic team members >required< to wear this shoe? That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

Research also showed that fencers are “ridiculously brutal” on their shoes.
Who would have thought?
I'll be looking to buy a pair. One test is worth a thousand opinions. I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was. - Toby Keith Living life without taking the occasional risk is like lemon-pepper chicken without the lemon-peper. It's just chicken. -
Those look awesome, I have to figure out a fencing shoe in the meantime since it looks like those won't be available for a while, but I'll probably get those when they come out, especially since the price point is quite reasonable for a niche athletic shoe. -

Array The one question running through everyone's mind is of course: Will they be available is size 15 or higher? -
I wonder how true that 6 month lifespan is if there's no measurable degradation in that time. In many other shoes they're already falling apart, which is a very different situation. -

Or would an NCAA fencer doing it 30+ a week go through them in 6 months? -
