    need spaghetti in a hurry

Where can I go to find spaghetti tubing other than ordering online? I need to assemble an epee soon and won't have time to order any. Would some place like Home Depot or Lowes, or maybe Wal-mart carry some?

    Thanks!

See if your local RadioShack has 22 ga solid wire. Cut a length of what you need and strip off the insulation and use the insulation as spaghetti.

Craft stores have "beading cord" which is sometimes exactly what you want. It's kind of hit and miss, but worth a try.

Place where I've bought it in the past.

Obviously not near you, but I'd assume there are similar places in most of the country. Lots of electronics hobbyists out there.

I've used in a pinch heat shrink tubing, the thinnest one available. I heat it with the propane torch, of course.
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

    See the recent thread:
    Heat Shrink Tubing
regarding heat shrink tubing as a substitute for normal spaghetti tubing.

(Plus, if you must use it, why shrink it?)

I don't really see any problem with rigidity on the 3 blades I have wired that use it. Plus, I don't really see how rigidity could be an issue when the insulation is fixed at both ends (under the socket screw, and in the bell guard.)

For me, only time will tell if this was a bad idea or not, but for now, it works quite well.

Tim- I'm not sure your post is responsive to the OP's problem. He's aware of sources from which to order, he's looking to avoid that.

I appreciate it guys. It turns out I haven't had enough free time to wire the blade anyway. By the time I can order any at this point, I'll already be back at school and can snag some from the armoury closet.

    Oh well, thanks anyway.

ps. Thanks Tim, I'll definitely give you a call if I need any in the future.

Craft stores sell it. Look in the isles where they sell "Gimp" and plastic tubing.

Craft Stores are great in a pinch

Craft stores do indeed have tubing appropriate to use as spaghetti tubing.

    Rubber Beading Tubing

You will usually find it in large quantities in the kids crafts areas.

Last time I needed some spaghetti in a hurry, I found a pack in the clearance section with all the spaghetti I will need in my lifetime for about 3 bucks.

Found some of this while randomly walking around a craft store with my mom yesterday. 35 Meters of the stuff. I'm set for eternity.

Too bad it's multicolored in pastels.
