Where do you find information on summer camps? I have no idea where to look. We don't have a "club", Nick fences at the YMCA, and they have NO idea where to look.

Some summer camps are listed in the American Fencing magazine. Maybe in the next issue.

In the meantime, go the the USFA website, clink on "Find a club"
    http://www.usfencing.org/usfa/conten...gory/7/325/80/

If not yet, most clubs will have information about their summer programs posted soon.

You can also go to universities with fencing programs, many of them have camps.

You can even do a google search for fencing camps.

The Canadian Fencing Federation lists camps on its website.

Rochester (NY) Fencing Center always offers a camp. I don't know whether details for this summer are worked out yet, but you could contact the club for information.

How high of a level and will the camper be male or female? My understanding is that the m.epee team is going to put on another epee camp in Colorado Springs this summer. I don't have any details yet but last year, space was limited and the kids had to be fairly high up on the cadet and junior list (top 16 or so). The last I heard it was going to be held in late July. The camp received great reviews last year. I think it lasted 10 days or so and was about $500 but some scholarships were available for those that were high up on the point list. Keep an eye out for it because, if you have a son and he is a very good fencer, it will be a real winner.

I've heard very good things about the camps run by NWFC, although I haven't attended any.

One was just announced in the tournaments & camps forum.

Clubs advertise their camps sometimes at tournaments too - like the super regionals.

My sons both went to the camps at "Les Seigneurs de la Rive-Nord". My son got to fence covaliu every night he was there - it was pretty great.

Gilbert is a great guy - the kids stay in his home - his wife cooks all the meals and is a nurse - the french immersion part is pretty good too - and even if your kid is not interested in french it is after all the language of fencing and after 2 weeks my son knew enough to get around all the european venues where they don't want to speak english -

It is mostly junior high and high school kids although I sent my younger son the first time when he was only 10 but with his brother so it was fine. If you have a younger kid talk to gilbert and he will tell you if he thinks it will be ok. He ended up going 4 times. There is a sabre and a foil camp usually on either end of the french immersion so it is possible to get a 3 week fencing camp in - and for room and board and the camp it is about $500/week. Much less than most camps and the food is better. They also go to la ronde, the water park, the pool, quebec city, ride bikes etc. All included in the price. It is a good time and good training.....

http://www.seigneursrivenord.com/ - the link is in this thread but back a few months.

Yes he is male and 16. Where do they advertise the m. epee camp in colorado? His coach wants him to go to Poland but with the airfare the way it is we might have to stay in the states.

I'm glad computer search skills aren't a prerequisite!

Going to throw in my two cents and say I think Carolina's camps would be great as well. Room and board are provided. Most of the campers are around your daughter's age, or have been in the past.

    Good luck!

FWIW most French people from France and other French speaking countries that I know don't really like/understand Quebecois french without a fair bit of work if at all. The Quebecois understand everyone else but for the most part they tend to sound almost as if they're speaking cantoneese more than they sound as though they're speaking french (from first listen). It's just something about the accent and slightly different word selection...could just be that I only French language snobs but they don't seem to have problems with any other dialects.

Also these are held on campus concurrently with other sports camps. Meals and lodging are provided in dorms that change their menues specifically for sports campers. Lodging arrangements are similar to other places (usually one floor of dorms, boys on one side and girls on the other, coaches and facilitators in the middle near the elevators and counselor rooms on the ends near the stairs. 3 sessions a day: footwork/drilling AM, drilling/bouting PM, competitive bouting evenings. Plenty of time for swimming pool, basketball, visiting the campus (which is gorgeous, although rather warm in the summers) and visiting local restaurants (supervised by counselors for kids under the age of 15/16).
