Array Veteran's Event in the Caribbean?? In Richmond at the Veteran's meeting an international event to be held in <I believe> the Caribbean was being announced. Does anyone still have that information or better yet the URL/link to the website for it? Could you pass it to me by private message or posting here?
And are there any comments about it? -

Array 50 and up or 40+? Is this going to be international vets 50+, or US vets 40+?
I'll bet Rene can find some really good Cuba food there, but I'll bet you and I will have a hard time finding real BBQ.

Array The schedule (April 10-13) has been posted on the Veterans' Committee website, but so far I've been unable to find a URL or any other information.
Apparently it's 50-59 and 60+. -

Array I went through Google to nahow and then to: http://www.eurofencing.info/EfcEng/H...alar/frame.htm
Not sure how they are going to get the referees. Some fencers may double up as referees in other weapons or other age groups.
The web site doesn't say if there is any limitation to how many fencers can come from any country. Not a bad place for a winter vacation.
A little more information at: http://www.curacao.com/ActivitiesEve...ournament.aspx
The nahow web site did say more information will be forthcoming.

Array Man... You guys really do get to have all the fun... - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

I guess you would need FIE equipment, wouldn't you? Maybe next year. It's right around my birthday, I could sell that. I'm sure I could. Especially if I bring her along. In fact, I'm pretty sure I couldn't leave her behind, even if I wanted to. The spirit is willing, but the fleche is weak. -

Especially if I bring her along. In fact, I'm pretty sure I couldn't leave her behind, even if I wanted to. Yeah, my situation too. Now selling Chicago in March is a no go (that's slush time). I've already been told to plan on going it alone. But I would have a hard time going to the Caribbean on my own. Not that she doesn't trust me, she just knows me.
BTW, if anyone else has ever bothered to read Richard Cohen's "By The Sword" there's one line in there to the effect that Veterans know how to treat themselves. And that's been true at each of the Veteran's World Championships I've been to. Whereas I am told that most of the World Cup events are almost like going to a fencing tournament locally, usually held in the equivalent of a High School gym with little Ceremony. Only difference being that it requires a long flight to get there. I believe it was Eric Hansen who told me once that on the World Cup Circuit he would fly in, try to get some sleep, show up at the event, fence and then almost invariably jump on a plane and fly back. Not so at Veteran's events. That might change if we were to hold a Veteran's World Cup, or maybe not. -

Array I spoke briefly with Nancy Anderson while at Richmond and she said that the Pan Am countries are trying to start a veteran circuit. I told her unless it includes 40+, I won't be able to attend. "Oh, too bad."
We might want to add one in the Bay Area, perhaps. I'm thinking of a place in Napa or Sonoma. At a winery. -

It looks like there will be another Veterans Challenge in the Boston area in 2008. We are looking at Labor Day weekend. It could well be a good and timely warmup event. Four weeks before Vets Worlds in Limoges. And a chance to get even with the guys who will be going. Whoopee! My avatar is back. -

What does it take to hold an international Veterans Tournament? And why not have a 40+ open event as well - just as a trial event? It need not be a World Championship. NorCal's Division Chair has expressed some interest in investing in bringing a major event to the Division. -

Array I noticed the EDEW was instrumental in arranging something with Kendall-Jackson a couple of years ago. I recall it being a little exclusive, but maybe they would be interested again.
Out my way there are a number of wineries that might be interested. Wente comes to mind.
If there is a real possiblity I would not mind soliciting. Also, Livermore is a lot easier to get to that Santa Rosa, at least I think it is. But Santa Rosa is good if that could be arranged again.

Array I was only putting out the notice about the K-J event. I was not involved in any way with negotiating with K-J or any of the set-up and planning of the event. I did make phone calls to get people to come to the event, as well as did the BC for the event and other tasks.
I can talk to some people to see if it's possible to have a Veterans WC tournament at some winery. I think there are other possible venues besides K-J (which isn't big enough to host a tournament: they just held the finals). -

I am planning on going to the Veteran event. I have lots of information, but will be willing to share the hotel costs. Has anyone made hotel arrangements yet and willing to share? Who out there is going to this event?
hope to hear from someone soon...

josie Share your information. We're all ears err yours or something. -
The information posted above for the itinerary was a bit difficult to locate., and they finally updated the site to include a registration page that could be emailed, plus I noticed today they also included an email address for those needing roommates to email the following.. I have already done this with no response.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE, ADVISE THE VETERANS COMMITTEE
by emailing rcampanasr@aol.com
So, my search continues to see if a roommate can be located or it is too expensive to go it alone. Plus I have not found any pricing on the hotels listed that indicate "room blocks" secured.. at what price.
So, does anyone else out there have more information on the hotel situation? -

Array Close of Registration I wonder if they have posted a close of registration? And is permission of the fencer's national organization required? -
