The close of registration is March 31st. $70.00 registration fee can be collected at registration in Curacao. No FIE license is required. They also reference to contact paulevy@email.com for more info. Guess I'm still on this mission solo.

    Try the Nahouw site:

    http://www.nahouw.net/tournament/249...ournament.html

It now has links to the entry form and further information about the competition.

There's also a complete info page on the Veterans website, under "News".

At least 4 and maybe 5 guys from my salle are thinking about going, myself included.

Close of registration is March 31st. From what I read, not international FIE license is not required. If there is more interest out there, let me know and I can help you get registered.

How does that work, anyway? Can it be FIE sanctioned without requiring the license? Will the national federations object to this rank abrogation of their roles as gatekeepers ( for our own good, of course )?

Will we all arrive in Curacao only to be told that at the last minute M. Roch smote the LOC and had the event cancelled?

What makes you think it's FIE-sanctioned any more than all of the cadet internationals are?

Yeah, it's being called a "Friendship" tournament. Wonder if that's code for "unsanctioned?"

More like code for "no qualification required".

I wonder what the FIE thinks of the loss of license revenue?

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. I had to buy an FIE license for Sydney, but apparently it was only good for that one event, because I am again licenseless per the FIE database...

So basically this is an unsanctioned tournament. Like all us buddies get together down at somebody's club and have a training session. It's not official and officially no one cares?

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. The website goes on more about the liquor than the fencing. Ok, Krems, Bath,Sydney, et al. were great excuses for a vacation before or after. But the competitons were that, competitions. Come vacation in the sunny carribean and fence a few bouts too doesn't seem to have the same cachet.

Maybe to look at some of the European veterans events and schedule a vacation around one or two would be more interesting.

The head of the local organizing committee is also the President of the national fencing federation for the Netherlands Antilles.

This could well be sanctioned by that body, which would leave it equivalent to tournaments sanctioned by NGBs in other countries which are open to international fields.

This is the same situation that cadet "world cup" tournaments fall into. They are basically the equivalents of NACs that specifically aim for international representation as a significant portion of the field, rather than being primarily (or exclusively) domestic.

This doesn't feel like a "come down and drink on the beach, and we'll try to find a way to give you a couple of bouts" type of a thing.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

Mind you, a vacation on a tropical beach in March is better than a poke in the eye with an epee.

What if your vacation on the beach in March takes place in April?

The kicker is that the VWC is at the end of the fencing season, just before all FIE licenses expire.

It's a conspiracy. I am pretty well convinced of it.
