Ystad International - Sweden

Folks,
Heres an international in Sweden that is next year but if it's something that you need to save for here are the details early. I Have fenced there 3 times while I was overseas and was a wonderful competition.

Fencing friends!

The first fencing tournament in Ystad was arranged by Ystads Fäktklubb in 1935. It´s since then one of the biggest fencing tournaments in Sweden.



Ystad is situated 45 minutes from Malmö Airport and 90 minutes from Copenhagen Airport. Ferries from Poland to Ystad and from Germany to Trelleborg. (www.ystad.se)

June 14th – 15th 2008 it´s time for the 74th edition of Ystad International with
* womens epée and mens epée (Nordic Championships)
* veterans epee (40 years and older)
* competitions for epée teams

We have no sabre competition 2008. It´s Nordic Championships on Iceland during the same weekend.

Why oh why did this have to be on the same day as our National Championships? (Our club is hosting and there's a slim chance I'll fence). Damn!

I'm sorry, I was just kidding. The conflicting dates are just bad luck. I highly doubt that the organizers in Ystad will make any changes. Unfortunately! It would have been great fun if you had been able to come.

If you're really interested in coming to Sweden to compete during the first half of 2008, two other options are:

• "SAF-pokalen" (satellite-WC) Feb 9-10
• "Challenge Fillol" (national ranking competition with prize money) May 24-25

Both competitions take place in Stockholm. An invitation in Swedish to SAF-pokalen is available here; an English version will hopefully be available soon at the FIE homepage. The invitation to Challenge Fillol will eventually be published here.

I was attending when I was living in Britain... so it was a nice jump to go over and fence as well as make a side Trip To Brønnøysund No. to see my Uncles and Aunts, Cousins, Etc.

and its Norwegian spelled correctly... not Swedish

I'm Trying to save up for it but with the weak US$ it will be a Very, Very expensive trip at the moment. If the economic winds blow a little my way I will be there.
