| Don't Do This NAC C,
Richmond,
You remember those little packets of BioFreeze being handed out at registration?
Our Man Sam, some how got it in his mind that that they were a jelled form of aspirin. Maybe it was a headache or maybe a touch of arthritis but he decided that he would take one or two - internally. His comment was that the taste was rather less than he thought desirable. But it did warm his stomach and fixed his problems. Went on to fence reasonably well - for him.
Later when he related this to me I pointed out that the packet specifically indicated for topical (external) use only. His only response was that the taste really needed to be changed. But he did like that they fixed his problem(s).
Not in my eyes.

| Wow. That's pretty bad. Did he get sick?
At a tournament a few weeks ago, I'd hurt my knee, and this kid from my area was telling me about that stuff, and how he got it at NACs. Any idea if I can buy it anywhere?

Any idea if I can buy it anywhere? | Oh you can buy it somewhere. I was at a tourney in Maryland recently that was held at a private school. The gym area of the school had the stuff in gallon jugs with the big pump heads like you would see in a restaurant for salad dressings and condiments. So yeah, you can buy it, even by the gallon if you like...
My first experience with the stuff ended sort of bad (not as bad as "Sam" in the OP), but it does work pretty well if used correctly.

| I think it means that it can be used as a substitute for the gels that they use when they give ultrasound or electrostim treatments in training rooms and the like.

I haven't used it much since I had knee surgery. |

| Okay, cool. I generally use icy hot for sprains and pulled muscles and things, but the kid I was talking to was saying, 'It's like industrial strength icy hot, you have to try it.' S I got curious. Thank you.

| I've always thought of Sam as a smart fencer. I may have to revisit this opinion :-)

Thank you. | We had a bad experience with icyhot this last weekend. My son reacted to the menthol and was in agony until we could get it washed off. His back was bright red and it took a good amount of time with cold compresses to cool it down.
So, note that it might be a good idea to test a small area first before liberally applying. |

| A girl died last June from overuse of a sports cream like Ben Gay or Icy Hot, creams that contain methyl salicylate.

| It scks I have used every embrocation you can think of and Bio Freeze is nuttin. Put it on your knuts.
Try Cramer's Red Hot. Now that is sumptin that will fix an acute sprain. You will scream so much that the sprain is the last thing you are concerned with. |

| This reminds me of the guy in my High school marching band who after a long parade asked for some aspirin to put on his feet b/c they were sore... Sadly, I'm not even kidding. |
