We cautiously planned for only three events this season, and expected to take a loss on them. This was fine for us... we have a good budget, and the aim of the NYAC is to help raise the level of fencing in the entire region. Events like this provide training opportunities to all fencers that attend.
Needless to say, we were thrilled that our first event garnered 67 competitors and a very strong field! If these numbers keep up for event 2 this Saturday and Sabrage (our third and final event), we will look to expand towards a full 8-event Mercury and Caduceus Cup saber season next year, as we currently have for epee.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday! -

Yeah, the first MC for sabre was really good.
More local sabre events like the Mercury Cup sounds like a great idea. There seems to be a lack of events in the Metro Divsion. I have to travel to Jersey and long island for competitions. We're a large, strong division. Why shouldnt we have more events? -

Array Ben Igoe - Mercury Cup #2 Champion Congratulations to Ben Igoe of the New York Athletic Club, the Mercury Cup #2 Champion! http://askfred.net/Results/results.p...nament_id=4127
Ben had a perfect day, going undefeated in pools to take the #1 seed, and then winning straight through direct elimination to capture the gold medal.
In the final, Ben defeated #2 seed Johnny Arden of Manhattan FC.
The Mercury Cup champion will be decided by the the final event of the season, Sabrage, on March 30th.
Congratulations to Ben and all our competitors! -

Array Not to mention congratulations to Jonathan Bartlett for earning his D07!
Although with what appears to be an erroneously-entered club affiliation (NYAC, rather than NYAC II used previously this season).
