Fencing in Chicago (Northside) Hi all:
My son has applied to DePaul University (Lincoln Park) and will begin next fall (hopefully). We were wondering about the fencing opportunities in and around Chicago, especially ones that he could get to without a car. He fences saber. We do plan to attend the NAC in March, so we would like to check the clubs out at that time.
Does DePaul have a fencing club? I couldn't find anything about one on their website.
Thanks for your help.

Array DePaul University is in FRED's list of clubs...

Alimack The Chicago Athletic Assocation Fencing Club is probably your best bet, outside of any club that DePaul itself has. http://www.lsac.com/docs/flyers/FencFlyer.pdf

I don't know if he can get there without a car, but it's only about 3 miles so I'd say there's a good chance of it.

Gary - Thanks. LSAC has a facility just down the street from DePaul. I don't know if the fencing program is taught there or downtown. I have sent an e-mail to the saber coach to find out more.

I looked into the LSFC recently, and they have a nice little group there. The club is actually currently based out of the Lincoln Park branch of the Lake Shore Athletic Club, so just down the road - the LSAC itself lost its lease on the downtown building.
The group is not huge, but is very friendly from my interactions with them, and they would definitely be worth contacting to further explore. Overall, the fencing scene in Chicago is not as large as you would expect from such a large city, but the LSFC guys were a great bunch. Similar Threads -
