| Conversion Sweet jumpin' jellybeans!
My coach is trying to convert me to epee. I fenced a few bouts just last night, and I have to say...
It's not the most hideous thing I've ever tried.
Now, hold on, fellow foilees, this does not mean I'm converting, the artist in me loves all the mediums of fencing, it just means I have an easy appreciation for epee starting yesterday.
And I have my first cluster of epee pox!! Lol, I've been displaying the ones on my upper arm. Apparently they're the initiation injury of epee. =^.^=
I'll just have to be careful not to let this progress any further, eh?

| Each weapon has unique attributes that attract certain people. There is no "best" weapon, only the one that you enjoy the most. For me, that's epee, but I still fence, and enjoy, foil. The only reason I don't do sabre is I don't want to get in the habit of swatting my opponent's wrist then find that I am trying to do so with my epee.

Every epeeist I've ever met who's dabbled in sabre, without making it their main weapon, has mostly attacked with the point anyway. Point down, lunge for the wrist, and pray the ref knows more about the right of way than you do. |

| Ahhh - you always remember your first time. Congratulations on branching out.
Meanwhile, if your coach is indeed trying to convert you to epee, I suggest that you LISTEN. If s/he's worth the title "coach", s/he knows something about where you ought to be. If I'd listened to mine a little sooner, I would have saved myself a lot of time, aggravation, and money spent on weapons that now lie around unused.

| Do it. My coach suggested I convert to epee, about 7-8 months ago. I did, and I haven't looked back. Except for the very rare foil bout when I can't find an epeeist to fence.
I don't know why for sure, but my coach suggested I convert very early in fencing. I had been fencing for maybe a month or two at most, and as far as I know, that's much earlier than he normally does. Maybe he saw my potential as an epeeist, and decided that it would be better if I didn't clog my mind with knowledge about things like right of way. |
