    Lame repair

The zipper on one of my lames is coming off as the thread is falling apart at the base of the lame. Can I simply sew it back on with thread that I can buy from the general store?

Take it to your nearest alterations place and they'll do it for you. $20-30 at most. You'll likely need to source them a zip as they won't have anything that long.

This has probably been covered before as with your other subjects. Learn to use the search function.

Actually, the search function hasn't been helping me. I know this is a dumb question, but is there a more advanced specific search function for the forum? Also, when you say alterations, do you mean for any kind of clothing? Could I possibly take it to a costume workshop in the theater department at a University?

No, somewhere like a dry cleaners that does dress/pant alterations. Just make sure you give them something that's clean otherwise they might up the price just a bit.

Yes. you can sew it back with any thread or even dental floss.

By hand or machine. Any person who can sew a straight stitch can repair a zipper where the stitching has partially come off.

It is a litle bit trickier to replace an entire zipper. You have to line it up and, ususally, have to open the stitching near the top.

Best to do it as soon as possible before it needs a lot of sewing.
    Whoopee! My avatar is back.
