| Current nerd qualifications include wearing contacts, glasses when not wearing contacts and contacts with magnifying glasses because I've reached "that age"...... honing in on methodologies in any published scientific/medical study....vocalizing all points and counterpoints to policies and procedures at my job..... and contributing to this thread because...........
My past nerdy qualifications are too long ago!!!!

| Ahem...
I have read The More than Complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (all the books 'cept Mostly Perfect, so about 600 pages)
Again
And again
And again
And again
And again
And again
And again
If that doesn't qualify me then perhaps the fact that I've read all of the Dilbert Books, and not just the comic strip ones. Also, I know how to type out emoticons rather than just selecting them from the menu, and I get frustrated when AOL changes what represent an emoticon (smiley faces didn't used to have noses!) I've spent more hours in front of a computer than just hanging out with my friends. Oh, and I'd rather discuss philosophy then get drunk (although debating economics while inebriated can be fun, and the fact that I find that fun makes me a nerd!)

| Can't say I've been to a Star Trek convention, but I've been to a comic con (I love my Japanese anime!) & a couple computer shows.
Has anyone seen the average Bruce Campbell/Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, etc. fan? Talk about serious nerd pointage! And I'm proud to say I'm one of them. Bruce rocks! So much for Mr. Bayer Hunter making this a "bad" thing! All hail the mighty nerds!

| I think I've seen all of the Nerd movies, Dame! Talk about classic. Anthony Edwards was a cutie back then (not that he isn't now).

I went to conventions frequently in the '80s, and always in costume (still have my movie costume, although I don't think I can close the jacket any more!), but usually modified to represent one of the charatcers I wrote about in the Star Trek writing club I belonged to (and where I met my wife!). I basically transplanted an elf from "ElfQuest" into a Star Trek world.
I also attended the first showing of Trek IV in costume (with a rubber Pernese fire lizard on my shoulder) in Times Square in New York...then rode with my roommate across town to a comic book shop, still in costume, on the New York subway...no one batted an eye!
God! Don't ever ask to see my three or four photo albums from those days. I had no life!
Then again, I still wear strange clothings and do wierd things in public...we just call it fencing.

| Thank you, Dame!
Although I'm not involved in the Arconia writing thread here, I think I wrote close to 100 stories -- solo and with others (usually my wife) -- during my fandom career. The bulk was either in the Star Trek or ElfQuest genres, but I also did a few in a Dragonriders of Pern club, and I actually was writing a story for publication when I hit a roadblock and just stopped. I haven't written anything for years, but it was an AWFUL lot of fun creating a character and running it.
What was strangest was how the relationship between Swiftcloud (my ElfQuest elf Star Trek character...a healer and CMO of the U.S.S. Achernar) and Keima Barmon (My wife's character, a Wolvan female...totally original creation) mirrored our own. As the characters became closer, so did we, and about the time we moved in together, the club died. I wrote not only the final story to appear in the zine, but Swiftcloud and Keima left Starfleet and ran off together.
Those were the days!

#53 | | Guest | Well, Sam , sweetie, you are certainly welcome to pick up the "pen" and join us at anytime. Your characters should fit right in considering that Nekos had admitted being a halvling.
Consider it when you get back.

| no you don't steve, you have very short hair, you wear brown plastic eyeglasses, you're "conservative", you like to do things by the book, you don't venture out much by yourself, and you keep a close eye on your friends, you've only lived in one state, and your favorite foods are beers, pretzels, and sandwiches.
PS. what is a halvling.

In school no one liked me, and I was told that when I was really young I used to brush my hair at recess! Well I have to many other "nerdy" qualities to name them all on here.
I think that I win on the princess bride thing you name one scene and i will give you four lines at least!!! K I will shut up now.

| I'll give you an easy one.
They're at the wall, they've just come from Miracle Max, what are their resources? What does Fessik think that Wesley should be happy about?
Okay, it's a two parter, still easy, more importantly, how do you spell "Fessik" ?

| " And our Assets?" Westley asked. "Your brains, Fezziks strengh, and my steel." "thats *all*? Thats it? thats everything? The grand totall?" Westley pauses. "if only I had a haulocost cloak." Fezzik pulls one out. "will this do?" he asked "where did you get that?" said inigo. "miricale max it fit me so nice he said I could keep it."
K I'll stop now!
Fezzik (F-e-z-z-i-k)is happy that he moved his thumb or head depending on which vertion you are talking about. see told you so!
Does that put me on the charts?

| ::ahem:: Might I interject?
Westley: That doesn't leave much for dilly-dally.
Fezzik: You just wiggled your finger! That's wonderful!
Westley: I've always been a quick healer. What are our liabilities?
Inigo: There is but one working castle gate, and it is guarded by sixty men.
Westley: And our assets?
Inigo: Your brains, Fezzik's strength, my steel.
Westley: That's it? Impossible. If I had a month to plan maybe I could come
up with something. But this...
Fezzik: You just shook your head! That doesn't make you happy?
Westley: My brains, his steel and your strength against sixty men and you think
a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmm?? I mean if we
only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.
Inigo: Where did we put that wheelbarrow the albino had?
Fezzik: Over the albino, I think?
Westley: Why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place?! [sigh]
What I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak...
Inigo: There we cannot help you.
Fezzik: [pulls a black cloak from under his shirt] Would this do?
Inigo: Where did you get that?
Fezzik: At Miracle Max's. It fit so nice, he said I could keep it.
Westley: Alright, alright, come help me up. [They help him up] Now I'll need
a sword eventually.
Hand over the nerd points, boys & girls!
