I'm always terrified to go see book-based movies because Hollywood has this unbeatable way of mutilating everything I liked about the book.

Harry Potter, for example. Loved the books, the movies pain me. I almost didn't go see the fifth one.

The only book-based movies I ever enjoyed were The Lord of the Rings. Newline held true to the spirit of the books, something I haven't seen done since.

I'm still working up the courage to go see Golden Compass. Should I?

By the way, I was wondering, do they intend to make The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass also?

Androne the Tiger
Assertive, modest, shy, a leader and spontaneous.

Does anyone here think it somewhat odd that a movie website is helping us to choose a companion "daemon," defined in Greek mythology as a either an "attendant spirt" or a "deified hero."
(Alternatively a Demon - an evil supernatural being, a devil; a spirit intending to cause harm)? Traditional religious teachings portray demons as evil, representing the very worst in mankind such as greed, envy, jealousy, anger, lust, etc. The author appears to be taking a shot at traditional religious portrayals of demons, trying to make them appear all warm and fuzzy, which would appeal to children. In my opinion, not very subtle at all.

The movie was a huuuuge disappointment. I really liked the books, particularly the 1st and 2nd (possibly because I was younger when I read them). The movie just didn't really do it for me at all and they really hollywooded up the ending.

Saw the movie today, haven't read the books.

The movie was, as someone else stated, average.

Nice graphics. I'm sure my age puts me above the target audience. (I did find Eva Green to be a bit intriguing :blush I felt some story elements to be handled poorly from a storytelling standpoint, but still done better than the Eragon movie.

The movie itself does not merit the 'religious controversy' that the books apparently do.

I was the fox.

I read and liked the books. Would let my kids read them, if I had kids. Hell, I read Slaughterhouse Five in the seventh grade.

Doubt I will see the movie.
