Adidas Asymmetrics/ Fencing 2000 Hey guys, I'm new here and I have a quick question~
I just qualified for JOs (Cadet) and I really would like to buy a new pair of shoes to replace my old D'artagnan IIs. Some people I know have the Asymmetrics and I would really like a pair myself. Unfortunately I know they're from around 2000 and they're hard to find...anyone know where to get them?
HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! thanks! -
There will be vendors at JO's.
I am almost certain you could find a pair there. (\ /)

Vendors don't have them anymore, other than odd sizes like lefty size 14s. Look for a different shoe. -

HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! thanks! The Asics Onitsuka Tigers are an asymetric fencing shoe.... very reasonably priced too. But they seem to be for a very narrow foot so not for everyone. - Wisdom is the knowledge of how much you don't know. -

Array is it just me or do those asics fencing shoes seem like casual trainers based on a fencing shoe design. after looking at them, they seem more like fashion reproductions -

They grip very nicely and are comfortable for my feet. I have to admit that I have never owned any high priced fencing shoes, but the Asics are as good as any other low/moderately priced shoe I've used. They could use more padding inside though... maybe go one size larger and get a gel insole. - Wisdom is the knowledge of how much you don't know. -

Array You probably will not find the Asymmetrics - the few that are left are in fairly odd sizes. If you have a very large or very small foot, you might be in luck.
Look for another shoe. -

Array I bought a gently used pair when I started. A size 12. They've worn out very very rapidly. Maybe its because Im new and am hard on them but they probably wont make it all that long. Im going to pick up a cheap pair of shoes to use at practice and train. Ill use the assymetrics at tourney's to look cool. -

I can't find any reference to them being asymmetric, aside from the tread on the sole... They were made in 1984, I think that shoes have "evolved" quite a lot since then... - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

The Asics Onitsuka Tigers that are available now are a retro casual street shoe based on the 1984 original. They are not asymmetric. I have a pair but I wouldn't fence in them. Nice grip but very poor cushioning and support. They also don't hold up to wear and tear.
Maybe for 2008 Adidas will issue an updated version of the Equipment asymmetrics. Who knows. -

The feel and movement are going to be just a bit different, especially if you're talking about the Adidas asyms...
But, as always, if it works for you, more power to ya. Just don't do it to "look cool". Rather let your fencing do the talking.
That said, I'm probably going to get a few jealous/incredulous looks when I show up sometime in the spring with a brand-new set of asyms. -

That said, I'm probably going to get a few jealous/incredulous looks when I show up sometime in the spring with a brand-new set of asyms. I was jealous enough when I saw that you still had a pair a month or so ago when you turned up... I can imagine that each pair you pull out of that closet will get you even more incredulous looks... Maybe you should drag them through the dirt for an hour or two so people don't realize they're brand new...

get yourself a pair of Adistars. I was lucky enough to find a pair of Asyms in my size after getting my Adistars. I tried them for a little while, and while they were really comfortable, they don't grip nearly as well as Adistars do. I took them back, and kept the Adistars. -
You may be the first person I've ever met that prefers Adistars. I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

I actually have almost brand new (only worn a couple times) pair of Asymmetrics right handed size 8 if any wants to make an offer. -

Here is what they look like. http://www.fencing.net/gallery/showp...o/1400/cat/500 http://www.fencing.net/gallery/showp...o/1401/cat/500 -
