    lazy, high school kids

    huzzah for ABCnews!

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalra...mment-91157166

so i guess i takes six students out of a few hundred to show how high schoolers around the country dont give a damn about politics.

i cant decide if they were trying to make us or Obama look bad.

    as my sister put it:
"anyway, you're right about that reporting. true, the media only ever wants to show shocking or otherwise outrageous footage. plus (as I'm sure mom would say) the media really does not like nh. it's a stubborn state that refuses to do anything outwardly embarrassing, and yankees have a way of making other people feel stupid and inferior."

this really makes me mad, i want to here what you people have to say about it.

After a lifetime of listening to it, I am so disillusioned with the Pop 40 American News Machine that whenever it does something like this, or shills the latest episode of "Survivor" in order to "make" news, it no longer angers me. It only saddens me. Given their constitutional rights, they have the opportunity to tell really important stories. Instead they feed us pablum that they think will sell advertising.

How is this news worthy??? So what? Kids sleeping in class or during lectures.... like THAT doesn't happen.

    We all have the choices.
    1) Change the freakin' channel.
    2) Shut off the TV. Perhaps stop watching it. Soon you'll find much better things to do with your time.
    3) Get mad and raise your blood pressure.

You've just seen a glimpse of the state of public schools. That could have been anywhere.

They needed some filler because there was no mass murder or cute children being molested and killed today.

Yup, very few people in school care about polotics, and half the ones who do don't know jack about what's actaully happening. Some even deny global warming.

Yeah.. I understand the concept. They made the choice to "fill" with negative stuff rather than something positive. I like when my news stations fill these times with positive or interesting little stories. I know a lot of people who feel the same, so more and more local stations are doing that now.

Hey... youth is wasted on the young. They don't realize the opportunities they have anymore than we did when we were young.

When I think back on the courses I didn't take or the things I didn't think were important to learn... well, let's just say I've spent a lot of money taking courses as an adult to try and fill-in some of the information I missed the first time around.

i think my school did pretty well myself, if only 6 of them were sleeping, none of the seniors were. if they wanted to get a real view of how much we care about politics they should video tape a contemporary-issues class.

it is true that many people that i am around all day dont care about anything.
school is a microcosm of the outside world, those people that actually do anything (like think for themselves) are the people that matter, everyone else is disposable.
if you think about it its seems just about right the number of people that dont care compared to those that do, look at the number of them that will not vote later in life. i have a hunch they would be pretty close.

hummm, this may make a cool economics paper. i need to remember this topic.

I think the problem is that Obama is just a cookie-cutter candidate that offers very little change from the way things are now. They'd pay attention to Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul.

    Hi!

Once during class, I fell asleep. Sophomore year, I was 17 and spent too much time in the student pub trying to work up the courage to ask older gals to dance ->going home too late.

Not only that, I fell sideways, tearing with me several textbooks belong to classmates (we were in a cramped seating pattern) and landed with a crash on the floor.

The teacher was a neighbor of my parents, and I had known him since age 8. He had a little chat with me after the lesson (in polymer chemistry, BTW)

    Have a nice time!

Teenagers + 7 AM start times = sleep.

It's really as simple as that.

    Amen.

Highschool kids need "nap time" more than any kindergartener I ever met.
