Results from Licciardi Cup in Aix-en Provence (Junior MF World Cup)

The Russians and the Italians take this one. For the USA, Mills takes 9th and Meinhardt takes 13th. The interesting thing is Getz was ranked first out of the pools but had to abandon his first DE. Anybody know the story?

Presumably injury. Very unfortunate. Would they mark abandon if he failed to report (only other thing I can think of).

I was keeping a fairly close eye on the website all through the morning. The result popped up way before any of the other DE bouts had been fought, so he must have pulled out rather than just not shown up (which would be scratch rather than abandon, I'd have thought).

He won all his pool bouts, so I'd guess if it was an injury it was probably one of those daft things that's unrelated to actual fencing, like tripping over something. (GBR's Tom Cadman injured himself before the L64 at the Senior Worlds by falling over a trip hazard, got half way through his L64 fight and then pulled out. He's only just off the crutches.)

I know golf has water hazards and the like, but fencing's rough... we apparently set up TRIP hazards to slow down our athletes.
