| Stoves/ovens My dad has challenged me with the task of finding the best oven/stove for $400-$800. Unfortunately I have NO experience what so ever with the subject.
I know quite a few of you cook so I was hoping you could help me out. |

We could tell you the best stove in the world, but if it isn't available for you to go get, that doesn't mean anything.

| It's hard to go wrong with a sealed burner gas stove (must be sealed, not open, or it's a nightmare to clean!), or a flat-top electric where the burners are nearly invisible under the top element.
Don't forget to measure the opening in the cabinetry...it makes a difference in the model you'll want to look at.

| Definately sealed burners. I like a convection oven as well.
Otherwise check out Consumer Reports. They will have a grid and everything outlining the realtive merits of stoves in your price-range. Worth the $30 to join on-line for the year. |

| I like these: http://www.aga-ranges.com/ at least in theory, but they're out of your budget. I don't know much about household stoves, but if there's a Vulcan or US Range for that price, it's probably pretty good. You might also consider a commercial range from ebay. Even well used but clean, a commercial range will last for a Loooooong Time. (You'll need a hood, though...) |

| We went with a standard electric (not a flat top) from sears.
Go mediocrity! |
