3 full periods...NO TOUCHES!!!! 0-0 going into priority...by the time a touch was finally scored (by the fencer who did NOT have priority), it was 53 seconds into the 1 minute priority period.

Amazing....BORING, but amazing! | Were these guys fighting hard & just not able to hit, or did the referee just refuse to card for noncombativity?

Both fencers were well-known to all, so he knew that one tended to hang back and the other was trying to draw him into attacking.
it probably SHOULD'VE been called, but there WAS some blade play going on...they weren't just standing there...th3ey just refused to commit. |

| Excellent job to both fencers. I've seen international bouts go this way (in the era of passivity, even), but I haven't seen it at the local or national level. Who was fencing?

| meh.........I said seems like. I find it hard to imagine that you couldn't have called NC but, it could happen (note this is different then passivity where clearly this could happen). |

But I think that you shouldn't be looking for reasons to throw that call around. Unless they stand back and put their weapons down that call should be swallowed, in epee at least. We don't have priority, so we damn well ought to be able to pick our moment. I was proud that at my last event even the bouts I won by large margins went down to the final seconds. Of course, this is a philosophical difference. I understand those who think that if the point doesn't get past the bell guard for ten seconds that NC should be called. But those are just foil fencers who are so bitter about what has happened to their weapon that they want to ruin it for the epeeists too. ;-) |

| I wouldn't say it was a good or bad bout just based on the fact that no touches were scored. Good or bad has to be based on the fencing that went on, whether there were touches or not. If they were going all-out and no touches were made, then they're good. If they just refused to fence, then it's not as good. |

Besides...all the action took place in the middle of the strip....not back in the 2 meter box where Bill basically lives. |
