Saber blades

There are two shapes that I am aware, but don't know why I'd pick one over the other. Any guidance? Are there any rules that effect this decision?

The short curved one with weird symbols all over the side of the blade should be avoided.

Get the cheap, light, cruddy ones. That way, when they break, you won't cry.

Cheap, cruddy ones are lighter and easier to fence with too. The russian blades tend to be okay as far as cheap ones go.

There are several types of sabre blade:

Russian: Y cut at the strong of the blade and Rectangle cut at the weak of the blade.

Etoile/French: I cut at strong of the blade, rectangle at weak of the blade

Old Style: I cut at strong of the blade, highly suceptible to whipover.

S2000: Stronger metalurgical properties, less suceptible to whipover in electric sabre

What you want is dependent upon what it is going to be used for. If you are using this for competition, S2000 stuff will be necessary, if you are just bouting for fun, old style blades will do.

The only two shapes that I know of are the "y" and the "i" shaped. I don't know if the S2000 come in the "i" shape. That's my two cents.
