| I've most commonly encountered this with Priuer tips (the copper end-caps on them are more prone to deforming than the steel caps on german tips). I use a pair of nail sets-- a 3/32" which is large enough to fit around the end of the shaft, and a 2/32" which is just a bit smaller than the shaft. The 3/32" will help seat the cap down, and then the 2/32" gets used to mash-out the shaft so it goes a bit over the rim of the cap and holds it on. You can also just use a ball-peen hammer. Another approach (at least with the copper-shafted Prieur tips) is to put a dab of fine-gauge solder on.
Out of curiosity, oiuyt, where did you get the german tips you had from (i.e., were they Uhlmann/Allstar, or Hungarian)?
