I'm moving to wicking type performance socks for all the sports (and hiking) I do. When my feet are happy the rest of my body is more likely to be happy. When my feet hurt, I'm just in a bad mood overall.

For fencing: a mix of cotton/synthetic.

So we understand this is advertising for some sort of new sock, care to tell us which material it will be made from? "Wicking anti microbial" really doesn't tell that much.

For fencing, I use a combination of types. I've tried almost all types with very mixed results.

My current solution is to wear Patagonia Capilene synthetic wicking thin liner socks underneath and Uhlmann cotton socks over them. This allows me to wear my shoes fairly loosely tied.

If I wear synthetic socks on the top, I find I have to lace my shoes tighter to keep my feet from sliding inside the shoes. Tighter shoes = pain and swelling.

For sports like hiking, I use light wool or Capilene liner socks and heavy wool oversocks.

I am currently using Nike soccer socks, which are wicking et. al. Really very nice and comfortable.

That's why I don't like the Adidas fencing sock, Adidas football socks don't seem to have the same issue. I usually wear the Allstar cotton socks or similar. If the slippage problem could be addressed I'd prefer synthetic for wicking, weight etc.

    Fore once not at all

I am looking for new socks and I am genuinely interested...

I guess the answer is that it depends what they cost but this is product research rather than pre release advertising

I'd always take something wicking and anti-microbial over something that's not. However, I just want the socks to be thin and light.

I don't think being anti-microbial is as important in a fencing sock as, say, a boot sock or really any other kind of sock.

I stay away from cotton. It causes blisters.

Can you add "Whatever's clean" to the poll choices?

Synthetic or a mix tends to stay up better on my ridiculously long legs. Wicking would be nice.

    Cotton is best for me.

I wear adidas Copa football socks. I guess they count as synthetic since they are a polyester/nylon/spandex blend.

I wear over-knee socks often in white but sometimes stripy.

If someone could come up with socks that are easy to pull up, but then STAY up, that would be good. Mostly, I hate those fencing socks which say FENCING on the side. You don't see football players wearing socks which say FOOTBALL. That's just dumb. Who wears those???

Is this your opinion or based on some research (other than your own opinion)??

I thought it's been common knowledge for awhile. It's the reason the Army issued only wool socks until several years ago. Now they issue some synthetic blend with antimicrobial silver filaments that are much nicer.

whatever's clean, ideally but not essentially a pair, or alternativelt anything available from whichever equipment vendor is available when I realise I've forgotten to pack any...

Wicking/anti-microbial sounds interesting but probably more expensive than I'm willing to pay

    Wait...I got it...

How about a hollow thread anti bacterial wicking material....

Then throw in an arch support that goes all the way around your arch instead of just the bottom of your foot...

Then maybe some low impact seams to reduce chance of rubbing and increase comfort....

then an ankle support band to keep the sock from shifting on your foot...

Then lets line the elastic at the top of the sock to reduce those nasty lines you get normally...

Then lets make em in actually sock sizes ya know 7-9 9-11 12-14

Then make them two lengths including an extra long for really tall folks ( 19.75" above the ankle on the size 12-14 )

    .

I had all of that except the last one. That's with the next revision.

Oh yeah, and you get a manufacturer that's made them for high performance teams in the past.
