Blue vs. Gold Foil Blades

I know that the 'blue' is just a coating over the blade but what does it do? Also, what does the 'gold' mean? Another coating? After a year and a half of not breaking any blades I have lost three in the last two weeks. Time to get some new blades...

The coloration is just a finish to allow the manufacturer (Blaise Freres, I assume here) to distinguish the different models of the blade, as the real differences (temper, degree of stiffness) aren't something that's readily visible. The BF gold will tend to be a bit less stiff than the blue.

At the beginning, I believe. The blue should soften up after a while, and might get too soft for some people's tastes. Or so I've been told.

Shiny gold and blue blades look fancy. That's it. I've handled flat black blades that are way better for flicking.
