Greetings from NJ First, greetings to all of you, and yes I am one of those dreaded lefty people.
I have been fencing for about 8 years now. I started in high school and continued through college. I havn't done much in the way of competition other than high school meets and a couple tournaments while in college. I'm looking forward to competing more as I now have more time.
As I havn't done much in the way of competition, I'm very much inexperienced when it comes to gear and armoring. I have been using french grips since I started but I'm finally going to convert to the dark side that is pistol grips. However, I could use some advice on what kind of blade to use and what kind of tip to use. I intend to mainly be doing club fencing 2 to 3 night a week and primarily local tournaments. I don't intend to be going to things like Nationals (at least right now). I am willing to spend some money but don't want an extremely expensive blade. Any advice would be appreciated.
And, of course, Foil Rules! -

switch to the real Dark Side, Fence Epée Andre Moreau: I fall in love constantly, indiscriminately! The effect is the same as if I never fell in love at all. -

Array Hi LeftyFoilist - I would say, like Bruce Springsteen, "Greetings from Asbury Park", but I'm not from around there! In any case, welcome to fencing.net.
You didn't mention which club you're at, but there's a full listing at http://www.njfencing.org, which also has the tournament schedule and results, and other important information. You also probably should subscribe to the NJUSFA message boards, where announcements are made. See the instructions for that on the "Message Board" link of the website. "In theory, theory and practice are the same, but in practice, theory and practice are different." -
I'm a member of the Clinton Fencing Club. And thanks to all for the warm welcome. -

Array Wow.
It's eerie how similar you are to me.
The only problem is that "through college" part. I'm still in University. Oh, and I'm a Canuckian.
Besides that, I. too am a left-handed foilist.
Don't listen to SF. He's delusional. We're used to it on this forum.
Now down to business:
I'll assume, that since your looking at competing, you want an electric foil.
What price range do you have in mind?
What pistol grips have you tried?
What level will you compete at? The preceding post brought to you by Rabid Monk (TM). Rabid Monk: informative, irreverent, interesting, random and downright odd posts, done with pride since 1983. -
