The word from Nike is that the Ballestra will only be made available to Nike sponsored athletes for the Olympics and almost certainly will not go on to full production.
It is a real shame, the sample pairs I have seem to be very good.
Rats, all that research and development for them to only grace the feet of a few elite fencers for one tournament and however long they last after that :/

That's incredistupid. If they're that good, then SOMEONE (* ahem * alex ) should procure the rights to the design after the Olympics are over.

What?!?!?
That contradicts the interview Craig got...

The Nike Ballestra fencing shoes will be available to the public! I have it confirmed from Nike.
I'm putting together some more details on this and also getting the right contacts to put together something so that the fencing community can voice their support for the full launch of the Nike fencing shoes.
Look for something in the forums and on the home page in the next 48 hours.
"We are very excited about this shoe and being able to provide it for our signed athletes for the Olympics. At this time it does not look like we will be selling the shoe at retail. If there is enough interest there is always a chance that in future seasons we might make this available."
Maybe I have misenterpreted this but it seems fairly clear to me. I will e mail Nike for clarification.

Now, was this in reply to you asking to carry their shoe?
Because that just sounds like a polite brushoff to a retailer to me.
Yesterday afternoon. Spoke to the head of the design team about the shoes and their sales launch. I'll have more details up soon.
Craig
Of course its not possible the idiot bean-counters overruled the design engineers and didn't even bother to inform them that they'd been overruled. Because, of course, nothing like that EVER happens in large companies...
