Bad news I am afraid
The word from Nike is that the Ballestra will only be made available to Nike sponsored athletes for the Olympics and almost certainly will not go on to full production.
It is a real shame, the sample pairs I have seem to be very good. -

Array Rats, all that research and development for them to only grace the feet of a few elite fencers for one tournament and however long they last after that :/ -

That contradicts the interview Craig got... "When Fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and bearing a cross." -

Array That sucks! I really wanted them too... -
They were going into production until very recently.
I am not sure of the reasons that they have changed their mind but it seems crazy when all of the hard work has been done. -

Array The Nike Ballestra fencing shoes will be available to the public! I have it confirmed from Nike.
I'm putting together some more details on this and also getting the right contacts to put together something so that the fencing community can voice their support for the full launch of the Nike fencing shoes.
Look for something in the forums and on the home page in the next 48 hours.

Thanks, Craig. -

Array Yeah me too. My current fencing shoes are dying. Gimme that sweet, sweet Nike. The solution to your problem is to fence another weapon. -

Array Before I decide to be relieved, I'd like to know who heard from Nike more recently, Craig or Alex? -

Array I also need to get new shoes soon... so, bring them on!

I heard on the 15th:
"We are very excited about this shoe and being able to provide it for our signed athletes for the Olympics. At this time it does not look like we will be selling the shoe at retail. If there is enough interest there is always a chance that in future seasons we might make this available."
Maybe I have misenterpreted this but it seems fairly clear to me. I will e mail Nike for clarification. -

Because that just sounds like a polite brushoff to a retailer to me. -

Craig Of course its not possible the idiot bean-counters overruled the design engineers and didn't even bother to inform them that they'd been overruled. Because, of course, nothing like that EVER happens in large companies... That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. Similar Threads -
