I think I will just have to tie banana leaves to the kids' feet a while longer.

| Right now my contacts are all prepping for Beijing and I haven't been able to get any additional info. As it is now, I'll go with the thought that Nike saw Adidas at $200, figured they were better, so went to $220.
$220 it is until I hear otherwise.

| I was going to stay up all night on the 8th to wait for them to go on sale if they hadn't already.
Well, for 150, I was going to. I don't know what their per unit take is. They might still come out ahead with the higher price, but they're definitely going to sell a lot less.
I was anticipating this shoe like it was the Super Bowl, but this has killed my excitement.

| same here for me
ive been holding off on buying new shoes waiting for these (rolled my ankle in doing so)
despite the $70 increase, i think i'm still going to buy them (never spent more than 100 on fencing shoes though). they just look really well designed, and i don't think the new adidas's will be to my liking. they just look too...high.
but like i said: darn you nike people! |

Craig | Well, I guess you have to trade off the ideas of:
return on investment;
comparative marketing placement (what Craig said about Adidas price);
price gouging.
I feel gouged

| Quick...find a school with a varsity team AND a Nike Contract. Make friends anyway necessary w/ the person that actually tracks equipment. Hope that you'll get lucky if they do. Start soon b/c apparently orders are in this week and someone else may try to beat you to the punch.
$220 is ridiculous. I'd probably by LPs or find a court shoe.

| I've seen someone fence in those. It didn't really rock my world.

| I don't see how Nike can gain market share with a price that puts it within reason of maybe only 10% of fencers. I was going to buy them for $150 (the most I've EVER spent on shoes) but now there are other shoes looking much more attractive. Very bad decision, IMO. |

| I bet Leon Paul is pretty happy about this whole thing. Those ugly Scimitars are looking a lot better right now.

The Nike's though will always match everything as long as people wear them leisurely.

As opposed to the Scimitar, for which you get one choice, and it looks equally ghastly no matter what you're wearing. No parent wants to hear it, but Your Baby Is Ugly.
I'm not saying looks are the most important thing. I was going to get a pair of Scimitars before this Nike came along, and if this $220 nonsense keeps up, I'll probably end up with Scimitars anyway.
