| Sam's right on the meaning of BF. Blaise Freres blades are sold by a number of companies (Uhlmann, Allstar, Triplette, PBT). They're a good choice, and on the stiff side.
Apart from durability, what makes a 'good' blade is largely a matter of personal preference-- balance, stiffness, weight, etc. If you want a stiff blade so the point won't wobble around a lot, then go with BF. If you want something light and flicky, Leon Paul. France Lames maragings are on the lighter side, stiffer than Leon Pauls, but fairly flexible out near the point. Vnitis are heavier, of middling stiffness, with a smooth, continuous flexion.
Basic France Lames non-maraging blades don't have the greatest reputation for durability, and I've seen some of them break in a potentially dangerous fashion (splitting along the groove). FL maragings are OK. Among non-maraging blades, Leon Pauls seem to be most durable in my experience, but they get mushy and kinky as they wear out. Vnitis are probably the longest-lasting maraging blades. If you're fencing with any great frequency, you'll save money in the long run using maraging blades-- the greater lifespan will more than offset the higher purchase cost.
