| I've played with something similar to this, but you're obviously way ahead of me on the curve.
You can attach a shot timer to to a small piece of plywood with the belt clip and set the sensitivity high. Set the tone to "random" and off you go. You can put a handle on it like a boxing target and have another fencer moving it so you can time redoubles and such.
It makes for a fun competition at the club.
The thin plywood will make enough noise to trip the shot timer. I really like your idea!
EDIT:
I might try taping a buzz box over the timer's mic to work like your idea. For voice recall, I'll have a newbie follow the fencer and read the numbers aloud.
Now you have me wanting to tear my shot timer apart! I'll hold off since it belongs to my employer. I'd be very interested in seeing your device.
