| A Fun Video Featuring me of all people!
I finally got a clip uploaded from me at Summer Nationals this past July. I attack with a flick over the back while my opponent goes straight to the chest. End result is one light for me.
Granted I lost this bout horrifically, but is this what was intended by these timing changes business? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcmHVeCf7oY

| Your scream is pretty scary if you keep playing the video over and over.

People are still flicking at Foil. And there was never going to be any doubt that the new timings would stop that (imo).
And before everyone starts - NO MORE NEW RULES TIMING (= bad/good/"I ordered a cheeseburger") DISCUSSIONS. |

| A 3 second clip? Hey, give us some more time to analyze your game!
I'm not sure that I would call your opponent's attack "straight" to the chest. You close distance faster than he expects. It seems to me that he tries to flick you to the chest. It fails, you hit. Nice touch.

Tomas | he didn't miss, and it was a straight attack.
but then again, i was there watching it when it happened, so i know what happened.
it was a really good example of the new timings. a solid straight attack bounced and a flick to the shoulder/back still landed. |

| iirc, only on the other guy, hence the need for the flick. |

| I've never done any sort of study here, in my experience, in a simultaneous action, the flick seems to be a higher-percentage hit than the thrust. I believe this is because the thrust is sensitive to the distance collapsing quickly, and bounces off, whereas the flick is timed to account for what's happening between the two fencers.

| I'm bad, and there's no need for analyzing my game :P
...
But no, my opponent was no wearing a chest protector. The flick was mostly because of "that's what I do to lefties" kind of action.
The thrust hit me dead center of the chest and I was also not wearing a chest protector. |

| I have had direct thrust touches not score because I pulled my blade back too quickly - chest protectors and bouncing not required.

| I love that two different versions of "In Da Club" are related to this video.

| One of my favorite artifacts of the new timing is the foil attack that lands just before a strong upward parry--the point hits the target but the blade is pulled flat against the lame, bending upward, before the debounce time registers the tip's touch--so that the attacking fencer's blade is pinned and he wriggles his arm in a desperate attempt to get the button to push back in whilst the defending fencer holds the now flat blade against his chest with the parry and tries to simultaneously twist off his opponent's point and deliver a remise.
It's cute. |

| this is awesome because at a basic level there's huge irony here. It's true. People can feign ignorance, but i'm just way tooo good at fencing, so I won't flinch and lose row, but instead i'll continue with my attack.

| ROW in the video. Is it just me or does anyone else think that Tool pauses and gets hit in prep(never mind the light didn't turn on and stuff) or just plain stops and then decides to complete his action when he sees the lunge??
It looks like advance, pause, lunge with flick during the pause left attacks with a single tempo attack.(deep lunge)
I'd call it attack left no, counter attack right yes. Any one else differ?
I'm just learning directing. I'd like to take the ref exam this year.

| Looks pretty simultaneous to me. With one light.

| At worst, simultaneous -
but I'd honestly give myself this attack since my opponent stepped backwards before he started moving forward. I don't see any pause on my part, just an advance-lunge. |
